但有几个疑问：          

首先，C中that有无修饰conversation的嫌疑？但a tool for private conversation 的中心词是tool，似乎是that从句的修饰对象。

到底定语从句修饰最靠近的名词还是靠近的名词短语的中心词呢？

其次，再看E。other than +what引导的名词性从句，好像有点怪，但似乎也能理解成与a tool for private conversation相对等的名词部分。

再次，conceive of sth to be /as，这两种说法哪个正确？还是都可以？

请大家帮忙看看。谢谢。

到底定语从句修饰最靠近的名词还是靠近的名词短语的中心词呢？        In my opinion, "that" modifies "tool" in C.

其次，再看E。other than +what引导的名词性从句，好像有点怪，但似乎也能理解成与a tool for private conversation相对等的名词部分。

再次，conceive of sth to be /as，这两种说法哪个正确？还是都可以？        conceive of something/somebody as something is correct.    for example:   Language may be conceived of as a process which arises from social interaction.

不明白，D有什么问题？- Marchoni conceived of the radio to be a tool for private conversation, a subsitute for the telephone (radio的同位语),which (修饰telephone,紧挨着被修饰的词) has become precisely the opposite, a tool for communicating with a large, public audience.

我觉得D比C和E都好，D和E的it指代都不明确，大家再讨论

两种情况，google都有出现，只是印象中，如果（to be），一般省略

看了大家的讨论，我也来总结一下。

A， 逻辑错误conception of the radio 不是 a substitute for the telephone，而应当是 radio 是a substitute for the telephone； it 指代conception, 而conception 也不是一个tool

B, which指代不了radio

D, which指代不清，就近可以指代telephone, 逻辑上如果跳跃可以指代radio, 所以指代不清，错；而且前半句意思重心改变了，原句是把RADIO当成TELEPHONE的替代品，A TOOL FOR PRIVATE CONVERSATION 是同位语

E, OTHER THAN WHAT IT IS,这个插入成分AKWARD
