Hi, All:
My background is PhD in Mechanical Engineer (ranking: around 20) and 3 years in Fortune 500. Should I get into a part time MBA program (ranking: around 20-25) now or wait 5-10 years to get into a top exec MBA? Thanks advance for any suggestion.
Thanks a lot. I am also thinking a Full time MBA. Although I am not old (30 years old and have two kids), I don't have enough encourage to give up a decent job and pay the tuition from my own pocket. If I do part time or exec MBA, my empolyer will pay all tuitions.
Down the road, I want to keep my technical side and my career path will be Direction or VP of R&D.
Getting an EMBA degree at 40 really doesn't look all that good on your resume, by 40 you should be well on your way to the top. Also, there is no guarantee that you will get into a top program 5-10 years from now. I'm not doubting your ability, but too many factors are out of our control (location, timing, motivation, even company policy, etc).
I think right now is a great time for you to get a MBA education and transition to the management side of the business (assuming you are not a manager already).
Having said that, if you can get into a top EMBA program in a few years, that's definately an excellent option too.
Good luck!
