7.    Although the coordination of monetary policy can help facilitate the orderly financing of existing imbalances, it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant in the absence of an appropriate fiscal adjustment.
(A) it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant
(B) it is unlikely that the size of their effect would be significant
(C) affecting their sizes are not likely to be significant
(D) the significance of their effect on its size is unlikely
(E) its effect on their size is not likely to be significant

230.    In an effort to reduce their inventories, Italian vintners have cut prices; their wines have been priced to sell, and they are.
(A) have been priced to sell, and they are
(B) are priced to sell, and they have
(C) are priced to sell, and they do
(D) are being priced to sell, and have
(E) had been priced to sell, and they have
ANSWER:C

“In general,” they reported, “the ability of the compounds to compete at the receptors correlates with their ability to stimulate locomotion in the mouse; i.e., the higher their capacity to bind at the receptors, the higher their ability to stimulate locomotion.”

When an individual or a party is wronged in the United States, to whom can he apply for redress? If to the public opinion, public opinion constitutes the majority; if to the legislature, it represents the majority and implicitly obeys its injunctions; if to the executive power, it is appointed by the majority and remains a passive tool in its hands; the public troops consist of the majority under arms; the jury is the majority invested with the right of hearing judicial cases, and in certain states even the judges are elected by the majority.

It is unlikely that中的it是形势主语,这在ETS的语法中是可以和句子中的其他it表达不同意思的,就像我举的那个OG60的例子。

A和E的主要区别在what is unlikely. A说its effect on their size is significant in the absence of an appropriate fiscal adjustment. E说its effect on their size is not likely to be significant in the absence of an appropriate fiscal adjustment.

230. Their wines have been priced to sell, and they do (sell their wines).

in the 1980's the rate of increase of the minority population of the US was nearly ((twice as fast as)) the 1970's.
b)twice as fast as it was in
c)twice what it was in

好像是我们可以说twice as much as, twice as many as, 但是不能用在速度上,twice as fast as.

39. For members of the seventeenth-century Ashanti nation in Africa, animal-hide shields with wooden frames were essential items of military equipment, a method to protect warriors against enemy arrows and spears.
(A)    a method to protect
(B)    as a method protecting
(C)    protecting
(D)    as a protection of
(E)    to protect
Choice C is best because the participle protecting begins a phrase that explains what the shields did. Choices A and B awkwardly use the singular word method to refer to items of military equipment rather than to the use of such items. Also, a method of protecting would be more idiomatic than a method to protect in A or a method protecting in B. In B and D, as is incorrect; also, a protection in D has no noun for which it can logically substitute. Choice E is incomplete; used to protect would have been acceptable.

Choices A and B awkwardly use the singular word method to refer to items of military equipment rather than to the use of such items.

During and immediately after California gold rush, the way for a merchant to generate the most profit was to move a limited amount of scarce goods to San Francisco as quickly as possible ,rather than ((to carry larger loads more slowlyk,determining)).......

b)to carry larger loads more slowly ,a stituation that determined

首先ETS说,the animal hide and shield with wooden frame可以是一个item, 一个equipment,或者一个instrument, 单不是一个method.

Their wines have been priced to sell, and they do sell.
I think "they" should refer to wines.
"Their wines do sell" means

7楼主,假设wines do sell这一主动在语法上是正确的,又如何理解逗号前的那举被动,wines have been priced to sell?

something be priced to sell

39. For members of the seventeenth-century Ashanti nation in Africa, animal-hide shields with wooden frames were essential items of military equipment, a method to protect warriors against enemy arrows and spears.

the design of the clipper ship.

b)to carry larger loads more slowly ,a stituation that determined

而我认为39题也一样,method就是用来概括animal-hide shields with wooden frames were essential items of military equipment的。 During and immediately after California gold rush, the way for a merchant to generate the most profit was to move a limited amount of scarce goods to San Francisco as quickly as possible ,rather than to carry larger loads more slowly一样,不是吗?

animal-hide shields (with wooden frames) were essential items of military equipment

按照ETS的逻辑,我也同意,虽然再考试是不可能想到这一点,在这一题里,method 根本无法指带the animal hide and the wooden frame.

在该句就清晰的连接了the aminal hide and ...frame是用来proctecting 武士。

13.    In June of 1987, The Bridge of Trinquetaille, Vincent van Gogh’s view of an iron bridge over the Rhone sold for $20.2 million and it was the second highest price ever paid for a painting at auction.
(A) Rhone sold for $20.2 million and it was
(B) Rhone, which sold for $20.2 million, was
(C) Rhone, was sold for $20.2 million,
(D) Rhone was sold for $20.2 million, being
(E) Rhone, sold for $20.2 million, and was

During the first nine months of 1979, textbook publishers incurred substantial costs for creating products that, due to a decline in public funding for instructional material, never were sold.
(A) funding for instructional material, never were
(B) funding for instructional material, never was

Among the more effective kinds of publicity that publishers can get for a new book is to have excerpts of it published in a high-circulation magazine soon before the book is published. The benefits of such excerption include not only a sure increase in sales but also a fee paid by the magazine to the book’s publisher.
Which of the following conclusions is best supported by the information above?
(A) The number of people for whom seeing an excerpt of a book in a magazine provides an adequate substitute for reading the whole book is smaller than the number for whom the excerpt stimulates a desire to read the book.
(B) Because the financial advantage of excerpting a new book in a magazine usually accrues to the book’s publisher, magazine editors are unwilling to publish excerpts from new books.
(C) In calculating the total number of copies that a book has sold, publishers include sales of copies of magazines that featured an excerpt of the book.
(D) The effectiveness of having excerpts of a book published in a magazine, measured in terms of increased sales of a book, is proportional to the circulation of the magazine in which the excerpts are published.
(E) Books that are suitable for excerpting in high-circulation magazines sell more copies than books that are not suitable for excerpting. publication
This record has sold over a million copies.
