Q27:

In parts of the Caribbean, the manatee, an endangered marine mammal, has long been hunted for its meat.  Having noted the manatee hunters’ expert knowledge of manatees’ habits, local conservationists are encouraging the hunters to stop hunting and instead to take tourists on boat rides to see manatees.  Tourist interest is high, so the plan has promise of achieving the twin goals of giving the former hunters a good income and helping ensure the manatees’ survival.

Which of the following, if true, raises the most serious doubt about the plan’s chance of success?

  • Many tourists who visit these parts of the Caribbean are uninterested in manatees and would not be willing to pay what the former manatee hunters would have to charge for boat rides to see manatees.

  • Recovery of the species would enable some hunting to continue without putting the manatees’ survival in jeopardy again.

  • In areas where manatees have traditionally been hunted for food, local people could easily replace the manatee meat in their diets with other foods obtained from the sea.

  • There would not be enough former manatee hunters to act as guides for all the tourists who want to see manatees.

  • To maintain their current income, manatee hunters who switched to guiding tourists would have to use far larger boats and make many more trips into the manatees’ fragile habitat than they currently do.

  • ANS is E , my answer is A .making  many more trips does't necessarily endanger teh Manatee . It is hauting that mainly resulted the decreaing number of manatee.

Passage indicates that tourist interest is high. Answer A says that many tourists are uninterested. I am not sure whether you can deny the evidence in the original passage.

Furthermore, "Many tourists who visit these parts of the LACE>CaribbeanLACE>" in A does not represent the entire population of tourists. As long as some tourists who visit these parts of the LACE>Caribbean and somebody who comes to these parts of the LACE>Caribbean just for seeing manatees are interested, the original arugment is still valid. LACE>LACE>

    以下是引用jandjshi在2006-4-20 4:06:00的发言:

    削弱题,不该削弱原文的前提,A排除

E:相对于其他选项,更贴近原文的结论“goals of giving the former hunters a good income and helping ensure the manatees’ survival

    那又怎样?更多地去fragile habitat 就会对manatee产生威胁?

    use far larger boats 就不能赚钱了?

原文提到了the plan has promise of achieving the twin goals ,

    HUNTER开船可以赚钱,但是开着大船去的话, 就会破坏那里的生态,生态都被破坏了,那些动物就不能生存了,这样更不能说是twin goals
