More than fifty years after the Second World War, a number of African American soldiers were awarded―some of them posthumously―with the Congressional Medal of Honor, which was the nation’s highest military award, and which was long overdue in recognition of their outstanding bravery.

    但是我觉得这道题目从结构上还是E比较好。


    the nation’s highest military award，其实是个同位语说明那个奖。


    后面说明在什么情况下得奖。


    如果选D意思好像变了，好像是说这个国家最大的奖就是特指他们的这次情况。

    in recognition of 也是固定用法,曾经再另一个讨论贴里，台湾兄弟说在填写EMBA申请表的时候看到过。

    award (n.) for sth.is an idiomatic expression...although in recognition of is idiomatic...the premise here is that...there is an "award" ahead...I prefer to first meet the idimatic need of award.

    说说偶的心路历程:一开始确实选D,而且语法上没毛病,但感觉是D的语法好于E,但E的逻辑感好于D,好象GMAT喜欢在句尾用这种几段式的东东修饰(实在想不起例题支持)

    但看到7楼的in recognition of用法也可以后,偶查了一下字典,这个词居然也有"为酬答....而...."和"按照功劳等...."的意思,偶不再犹豫,选E吧,虽然还是不完全确定

    为什么不选B呢？

    1. were awarded with的用法成立；

    例：Book News Annotation:    Hanna
    (an attorney and secretary for the Medal of Honor Historical Society)
    offers 88 entries that detail the military actions for which African
    Americans were awarded with the Congressional Medal of Honor, one of the United State's highest military honors.
    2.for long overdue recognition of ..的用法也成立的。反而in long overdue recognition of 少见（用google搜了，只有三页数据）。
    例：.The Welk homestead at Strasburg is a focal point for long overdue recognition of the contributions of German-Russians

    同位语award指的是Medal，in long-overdue....为了说明这个奖的意义

    were awarded with the Congressional Medal of Honor, 是这样的：were award for the military actions with the Congressional Medal of Honor,这句话前面有个for which.

    最后一句中”their”指代soldiers,从逻辑意思上是与主句连接的，而不是对the nation’s highest
         military award的解释，故用    the nation’s highest
    military award for long-overdue    ..."错，  the nation’s highest

    明白了,凡是有for或者直接long overdue的都是错误的

    E正确就在于前面加了in ,所以就不会引起歧义是修饰 那个奖了

    而是表示一种目的,in recognition
