I am also wondering where are the gentlemen gone?

Hi,Maowu, 2 years are the miminum requirement for LBS MiF. There are many IBM guys (mainly business consulting) in LBS MBA. You need to prove why you are interested in finance and why you can be a good finance guys in the future. Otherwise, even if you get offer from LBS MiF, you will find it difficult to survive in school as well as difficult to find a good job

Hi, Kevin. Could you please tell me the rough number of people from mainland China admitted by LBS MBA and MiF respectively each year? Thanks

Kevin:

I have several questions regarding the housing.

1). International student house also has flats for rent near the school and they seem relatively cheaper than private sector flats, do you know any one lives there, how are the living condition in those flats compared with the private sector ones?  Shall anyone interested apply earlier?

2). Living in private house (lodging or bedsit). On the one hand, it seems a good way to know the local people and culture, and living cheaper.  On the other hand, I worry that we may lack of freedom to live in others’ house. Do you have any insights on it?

3).  I heard that the University dormitory is pretty awful, is that true?

What will be your recommendation on the housing matter? And usually, how earlier should one arrive in London in order to find a decent place with decent price?

Thank You !!

Qingcao: If you want to live in dorm, u should apply as early as possible. But none of the dorm is close to school and it's not very cheap. I rented an apartment with a classmate from EU. I prefer renting apartment since you will know more about real life in London. It's also good opportunity to know different culture if your roommate is not Chinese. Probably nobody rents a room and live with house owner.

CDer78: the numbers vary each year. Normally there are 7-8 MBA from China and there are slightly more Chinese MiF ranging from 7 to 14.

Thanks Kevin!!! Actually I am now requiring to transfer to the IT consulting side.

I have passed CFA level 1 last dec. Now I am applying National University of Singapore's Part time MFE(Master in Fianncial Engineering) program, so I can get some background while I am working.

Now I am worrying, such MFE degree may disadvantage my future application for the MiF program...Can give me any suggestion about it?

I know it really depends on individual. But most of the MiF graudates will get into the front line, right?

maowu, your Singapore MFE is a very special case. I recommend you to contact LBS MiF directly (pjohnson@london.edu?).

Hi Kevin, thanks for the sharing.

My background:

Bachelor from Fudan University, major in Management (GPA 3.2/4.0)

4yr+ big4/CFA Level 2/Expect to have average G/T score.

My Q:

1) Does pure big4 w/e appeal to the programme? Or my chance to get admitted?

2) The diff between LBS MiF between LSE MFE? Which one is recognised more by the employer?

3) Job placement for Chinese graduates. Is the chance slim for us Chinese to land a job in IB/VC/PE?

4) Does the programme offer non-consignment loan and is it difficult to apply?

Really busy to have the research and will appreciate if you can offer a hand.

My Q:

1) Does pure big4 w/e appeal to the programme? Or my chance to get admitted?====According to your general academic background and working experience, personally I will be pushing you to apply for the program and that would not be very difficult for you get the offer, of couse, the premium is that you can show them a terrific pesonal statment. Accordign to my individul experience, a good PS is the most important. Also, a decent GMAT grade(700+) is definately requried.

2) The diff between LBS MiF between LSE MFE? Which one is recognised more by the employer?==== MiF@LBS. Just my personal view with no comments.

3) Job placement for Chinese graduates. Is the chance slim for us Chinese to land a job in IB/VC/PE?====It really depends. That is not difficult to stay in London after graduation, and most Chinese MiF graduates can land a very decent job finally.

4) Does the programme offer non-consignment loan and is it difficult to apply?=======You can apply for HSBC loan. Just check it out on the website of LBS. I paid the tuition by myself so can not give you any advice about that.

Really busy to have the research and will appreciate if you can offer a hand.

Good luck

To DCmm: it should be easy if you go to london in end august

To danfulee:

1) Does pure big4 w/e appeal to the programme? Or my chance to get admitted?

Several of my classmates are from big 4, either audit or transaction service/financial advisory. One HK alumni in 2005 who used to work in PWC joined Deutsche Bank in M&A

2) The diff between LBS MiF between LSE MFE? Which one is recognised more by the employer?

not comparable. LBS MiF is comparable to top 10 US MBA or Insead. Most students in LBS MiF have ibank, assets management, strategic consulting or blue-chip/big 4 accounting experience, which is not possible in any other universities in UK.

3) Job placement for Chinese graduates. Is the chance slim for us Chinese to land a job in IB/VC/PE?

all depend on experience. Popularity of Chinese students depend on their experience, not their nationality. Many EU students get better jobs because of strong work experience (e.g.JPmorgan IB, Mckinsey)plus their understanding of EU market.

4) Does the programme offer non-consignment loan and is it difficult to apply?

Many of my classmates get loans from HSBC.

Bank Draft

I paid by bank transfer.

I didn't know that!  So it will be better to use travel's check instead of credit card for the first couple of weeks in London.

That's expensive!!

I paid through citi bank, the fee is only JPY2,000, around RMB140. BTW, How much for one with student visa? As I have some fund in China too.

Bank Draft

In Japan, it is more expensive doing this way, as it is more troublesome for bank. I think the same rule should apply everywhere.
