1）此题主要考rather than的平行；

2）independent from:表示独立于，如：Tom lives independtly from his parents;

independent of 表示：无关。

是什么意思啊,这种用法造成的矛盾之处在哪里呀???

这道题考的是rather than 前后对称，即a branch of the main stem of mammalian evolution rather than a type that developed independently from 如果选 E就成了a branch 和 a development 平行了，显然是逻辑错误

There are actually at least two other relevant forms: the adjective forms "independent of" and "independent from."

"Independent of" means "not influenced by." Most aid decisions are made independent of academic performance.

"Independent from" means "not reliant on," "politically autonomous from" or "free from." Algeria has been independent from France since 1962. Hmm...you decide which meaning applies there.

原句想表达的意思是development是从common ancestor来的，但是development的过程中不借助其他外力，因此是independent，但是注意，仍然是和common ancestor有关的；
而c/e表达的意思是，这个development完全就和common ancestor无关了，因此用的是independent of common ancestor
