Why don't you phone the admission committee? It sometimes will work out well. Do not give up your hope!

Yes. I heard that CMU has a very small accounting program and their strengh is theoretical stuff. It's gonna be tough to get into if they think your math background is weaker. So, you should have some backup plan. What other schools are you looking at? Good luck!

Well, with your background, I think you can get into any top program in accounting in US, theoretically. Sometimes luck determines where you go.

anybody applying to business schools has good background, and i'm not among the most competitive ones

so luck does matter a lot.
