呵~ 在進行第二間學校面試時收到的消息， full tuition waiver +27,000獎學金
以下是上次campus visit寫的感想 ^^
上禮拜剛結束UIUC學校參訪的行程，一整天的談話與會面對不習慣英語思考的我來說明顯吃力些，加上去回程各約18小時的交通時間，讓我足足休息了兩天才比較有點精神。上CD來寫些此行的感想，分享給有志於Acct. PhD的同志們。
整體來說，此行的收穫是豐富且愉悅的。UIUC的會計系近年來加入了幾位專長於行為研究的年輕教授，幾個教授不分領域（auditing, financial accounting, managerial accounting and texation）地組成行為研究的團隊，算是UIUC近年來較有特色的地方。加上原本著重在archival research的教授，就構成一個多元化的學習環境，這是言談間教授們不斷強調，也是很吸引我的地方。
除了與教授們非正式的會談外，有一個小時的時間是與admission committee較正式的interview。Interview中被問到的問題只有一個：為什麼想念PhD。其他就是針對回答內容及Resume上的資料進行一些簡單的討論。當然，不能免俗地被問到對於他們的program有什麼問題，這問題前前後後被不同人問了不下十次，最後不得不從腦海裡極力搜索還沒問過的問題，頗是辛苦。Interview之後參加了他們PhD的一個Forum，一位他校的PhD來拜訪並報告論文的成果，開放、正面且活潑的討論氣氛相當不錯。
這次參訪，最令我印象深刻的是同行另一位美國的申請者（姑且稱為D男）。D男是BYU Pre-Doctoral Program的學生，雖然大學還沒畢業，卻已經有豐富的研究經驗，對美國的學術生態、每個學校的特色、教授們的研究方向都相當熟悉。根據D男的說法，今年BYU Pre-Doc.有七位畢業生，每個都已經拿到兩三間學校的offer了，包括Duke, UNC, IUB, UW, U of Michigan等，更扯的是有間學校主動發給D男offer，連申請都免了。認識D男之後我就常想，如果我跟他競逐一個名額，自己究竟有什麼優勢呢？很殘酷卻也是很現實的問題：語言的劣勢及對美國學術界的不熟悉，都相當程度地妨礙了我們申請的成功率。這些劣勢並非絕對，只是需要花更多心力與時間去克服。
每間學校挑選學生的標準都不盡相同，這也是為什麼申請的結果有好有壞，難以預測。今年UIUC的admission committee相當程度地著重申請者的研究經驗，而從受邀參訪的個人profile中也可以感受到admission committee想要強化學生diversity的用心。另一個心得是：盡量在個人的resume中清楚地強調個人的特色及優勢，因為我看教授們都是拿著resume在問問題，而不是SOP。這是我從此行的感想，給大家參考參考，或許並不適用於其他學校的申請，大家就批判著看吧。

To be honest, UIUC is famous just because of its accounting master program. In terms of research, it's in second tier. Top tier are those private schools, like NYU, NW, MIT, Columbia, Rochester........ Don't be fooled by US news' rankings. Compare the job placement, you can tell the difference.
But, bless Steve anyway. Hope you could get more.
不过我看过商学院research的排名，UIUC也是不错的啊，只是因为要TSE，所以我没申

Fat_fish, I can't agree with you more that job placement is of the utmost importance. However, I can't find placement information on UIUC website. Do you know where to find it?

I got the information from accounting faculty. Don't talk with Americans who are more practice oriented in accounting. They will definitely recommend you to UIUC, UT.
I don't think you can find it on UIUC's web site. But you do can find the placement info from the websit of Chicago, Northwestern and Stanford, I guess. Look at what shools they place. Accounting is a small field, if they place their student in such schools, that means almost no chances for other candidate at all in that year.

個人背景很一般，大學主修MIS輔修Econ.，GPA 3.5；畢業後念了MS Acct.，兩個學位都是在國內拿的，也許在台灣還算不錯的學校，但知道這兩間學校的美國教授並不多。T253, G750, 5.5。
研究所的畢業論文得過前AA所舉辦的論文獎。研究所期間及畢業後曾參與幾項與美國教授合作的研究專案，之後在國內的研究機構擔任研究員及顧問工作，都是與現在的研究興趣相關。

在上述網頁的PhD Preparation中就可以看到概略的介紹。NYU也有Pre-PhD的program，當初看了非常心動，不過只有美國人可以申請。

the money is good. although not the highest(chicago acc phd 29000+computer),
this is probably the second highest.
and the price level in UC is definitely lower than chicago.
you are going to have a luxurious life.

謝謝大家的恭喜和祝福，我申請的學校很多(23間)，除了這UI外還收到UCI的ad、並且參觀了U Pitt。其他沒消息的學校可能這兩個禮拜會積極問一下，不過恐怕是不太樂觀。
