多谢楼上的，第一题就是因为是这样，所以我觉得第二个be不能省略，因为主语不一样。

第二题，我就是觉得og说得我不是太明白，所以才来请教，请高手指教

其中a period beginning in 1788 变成 a hundred years的同位语,
也就是说, 任何一个没限定的100年(a hundred years),就是从1788开始的一个期间,怪.

若无法接受这样的解释,可再单看During这个字.
During这个字是有限定的,在某一期间,在某个时候, ex. during the summer vacation,
所以During a hundred years 就不太妥.

235. as +身分,用 of 很难解释这句.

当BE动词并列的时候，可以省略。如：
I am a worker and he a teacher.
