The author asserts that Valentine’s Day sucks. Although different people hold different ideas due to their distinct background, the final conclusion should rely on a case-by-case study and there is no universal answer. As far as I am concerned, Valentine’s Day (herein after referred as VD) sucks. My position could be substantiated by the following discussions.
Firstly, a good reason can be developed to support my position is that VD can cause a relationship to linger too long. When you are in a relationship that it’s on its way out, Valentine’s Day exerts a weird magnetic pull that makes you think it’s worth sticking around for a few extra boxes of chocolate hearts. Although there is no scientific evidence to establish a cause-effect relationship between a linger-too-long relationship and a box of VD chocolate, a spate of daily experience and common sense have inevitably showed the close correlation between those two.
Moreover, VD can result in serious social consequences. Single people may be a lot disappointed of not having a date on VD when the city is decorated by flowers and wrapped chocolate. Meanwhile, even relationship-couple may be upset if one party is currently, let’s say, on business trip. A girl can be greatly enraged if the guy picks up a wrong present, and popular kids may have serious difficulties in choosing a date, leading to fierce competition and intranquil mood among anxiously waiting girls.
Admittedly, VD can bring a great deal profit to movie theatres, shops as well as gift manufacturers. With increasing cognition of what VD really is, I believe, people will realize that VD sucks in fact and abolishing VD could be a good way to sustain social stability and to assure happiness among whatever lovers or couples, which is consistent with our country’s long term national policy.
To sum up, due to the above mentioned aspects that interact with one another, making the whole discussion more than convincing, I insist that VD sucks.
