used to 是过去常常做的意思,没有重复的.
但是确实不知道选什么
答案应该是C，D和E中的which和that从句都修饰了前面的plants，不能修饰前面整句话，因些不对。
原句的意思应该是这种技术原来是用于从遗传上增强植物，使和这种植物能够抵抗疾病和害虫，现在，学者们通过应用这种技术，却能增加一系列植物的蛋白含量。
从employing一直到pest-resistant都是分语短语作状语修饰researchers，B选项so that they are……变成句子，改变了作状语的成分。
而且使用the same techniques to 或 for 的意思都不准确，因为运用这种技术的目的不再是像以前那样用于增强植物了，而是要增加句子后面一系列植物的蛋白含量。

丽香MM，你理解的很对，这里的that逻辑上应该是修饰techniques的没错，问题是that修饰的限定性定语从句总是紧跟在修饰词后面，而且因为techniques和plants都是复数，偶们凭that后面的谓语动词又无法判断到底that修饰滴系谁，会产生歧义，这是E的硬伤。
C其实也不是最好，但偶觉得C的错不是致命错误啦，算是矮子里算高个呗~~

同时我认为A应该是正确选项，起码没有逻辑和语法错误阿。
楼上有人说A by 和making 的逻辑主语，很清楚，在这两个短语置首的情况下，逻辑主语就是researchers。
Used for 是没有used to 好，但也不至于是一个语法错误阿。
如果used for没有错的话，支持A呀，making 不觉的有什么错，没有要求现在分词的逻辑主语必须是紧接着前面的名词；可以是修饰前面的整个句子，也就是by后面的整个内容。
C中so that实在是很奇怪，在一个现在分词中出现一个目的状语从句感觉怪怪的
