An American colleague who is applying for graduate schools in the US asked me to write a recommendation for him. I feel quite honoured since I think that's something pretty important, and he would trust me, a Chinese colleague to do this.
But the problem is that I have never written one in my life. I was silly enough to email to ask him(he is away on vacation) how to write it. He wrote back and said it's nothing difficult and that he is not suppose to teach me how to write it, not even read it either.I am wondering why he would ask me to write that for him. Seems a recommendation is not that a big deal for him.
I am reading a sample here on this website. Gee, it's difficult! i don't think i can write one like that,or would i try to do so.
P.S. I am the contact teacher in our school for him since he doesn't know much Chinese. We are both teachers. I hope he isn't look me as his supervisor or something since i read here many people ask their boss to write recommendations for them.
Some tips:
1- be personal, please write out what's his unique/strengths that you observed or experienced.
2- be specific, give specific example that testify your points
3- be passion, shows that you really love to give a good recommendation letter to your colleague.
He is applying online.I may receive emails with questions or forms from the schools he is applying for.I guess i have got some ideas about what it is going to be like from information on this website.
He is applying for Harward, Standford,Berkely(sp?) and maybe Qsing Hua. This guy is incredible. The first time he did GMAT practice test online he got 90% of it right.Does anyone have any idea what the score is?
All I know about him is his performance as an English teacher for the recent half year and what i know about him as a personal friend.I know nothing about his academic conduct. This makes me wonder perhaps academic results might not be the most important thing in admission by American schools?
It's the first time I came on here and met you guys who are really Niu, which arouses my nerve to get to school again, not MBA of course, but some other majors like Education. I am interested in HKCU,Hongkong Chinese University now.
Hi,guys,I have prepared some of the things i can think of to put in the recommendation for this colleague in case the email forms will come and need quick filling in. It seems that I don't have much to say about him and i know nothing about MBA except it's something related to business. Of course my English is not good enough. But my friend knows my English level. If he trusts me, why not try? i don't want to get things ruined though. Please anyone here can help give me some tips.
I have used false names in it.
