(A)         That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said that it is their fault

(B)         That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said to be at fault

我选D是遵从了concise的原则,个人觉得"educators are at fault"比"it's the fault of educators"简洁跟地道。

1. fault, means RESPONSIBLITY here instead of STH WRONG.

e.g: I think the owners are at fault for not warning us. (Advanced Oxford, 6th edtion)

2. B: The subject is "that .... ".

(A)         That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said that it is their fault

(B)         That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said to be at fault

That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology,其余的部分can hardly be said to be at fault,那么句意是这个事件to be at fault,逻辑上就说不通,因为应该to be at fault的其实

是educators

(C)         It can hardly be said that it is the fault of educators who have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology

这里who从句修饰educators,这样这个句子说at fault的是educators,但是没有说明那些educators是由于who从句中的事件at fault的

(D)        It can hardly be said that educators are at fault for not anticipating the impact of microcomputer technology

(E)         The fact that educators are at fault for not anticipating the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said

E的重点是the fact that ....是不是can hardly be said.

所以C和E都改变了句子重心,so distorts the meaning of the sentence

a错。2习惯搭配sb be at fault,sth be at fault错。 fault of educator错误。c错。4the fact be said错误。

A. 错在没有说清楚到底是什么can hardly be said. That...can hardly be said和It can hardly be said that.. That...can hardly be said that...,是错误而且有歧义的。 Although it is possible to begin a sentence with subordinate clause beginning with that, this inverted construction often results in errors such as those found here.

(That it is 。。。。microcomputer technology)  can hardly be said

Although it is possible to begin a sentence with a subordinate clause beginning with that this inverted construction often results in errors such as those found here. In the original sentence, the subordinate clause that.....technology is followed by the main verb, can ...be said, but then the verb is followed by yet another subordinate clause, that it is their fault. The best way to solve this problem is by putting the sentence in the expected order, with the main clause It can hardly be said preceding the subordinate clause (that...).

LOGMAN DICTIONARY

  fault : responsibility for mistake.

eg: I didn't sleep well that night, but it was my own fault.

Be sb's fault for doing sth

eg: It's my fault for not making your new job clearer.

At fault: if someone is at fault ,they are responsible for sth bad that was happened

eg:  Some people claim that it is the UN that is at fault.

The choices C 扭曲原意.

至于OG说:"it also lacks completion". It is the UN that is at fault.    C said: It can hardly be said that (it is the fault of educators
who have not anticpated the impact of microcomputer technology).

尤其是B的解释看不懂,如果不是be at fault的用法错,那应该怎么排除呢?OG上说是“can hardly be said to be at fault” does not grammatically complete the subordinate clause.

1 That......technology 是 can hardly be said的主语,但是这个主语太长,头重脚轻,所以用形式主语it代替,应该是It can be said that......

2 saidu后面由that引导出一个宾语从句,所以OG说can ...be said是主语的谓语动词

3 原文中said后面由that引导的宾从的主语it指代的是not antisipate......

said to be 是"据说"的意思.

B : Can hardly be said to be at fault does not grammatically complete the suordinate clause

hardly不是几乎不的意思吗,那it can hardly be said 应该翻译成 ‘几乎不能说’啊?

要是几乎能说的意思,不应该用it can almost be said 了?

c项的意思就是说,it is the fault of (一部分)没有预测到微电脑技术的影响的educators的错。

That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said that
            it is their fault:

Alvin Toffler, one of the most prominent students of the future, did not even mention microcomputers in Future Shock, published in 1970.

A,that... can hardly be said that...,我们可不可以把它还原成主动形式,变成say that... that...,而OG上也说是一个不合语法的结构——在一个句子里,由一个谓语动词衔接主语从句和宾语从句。 。。

B,can hardly be said to be at fault,没有语法上的完成这个从句,我们还原成主动看,say that to be at fault, say 我在langman上没有查到say sth to do的用法。

C,wordy, that it is... who have not 可以更简洁,至于awkward,我觉得是把这个强调句还原变成that it is the fault can hardly be said, 这个it指代什么?

open to discuss.

That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said that it is their fault

A can hardly be said  就是一个完整的句子了 顶多就在能加一个 by us

主动的话就是 we can hardly say A

所以that it is their fault 放在这就不知道是什么成分了

fault后跟for来清楚地说明fault的原因,而B中that...can hardly be said to be at fault后面会让人expect错误的原因,即that...can hardly be said to be at fault for doing sth. 需要加for doing sth. B does not grammatically complete the subordinate clause.

57. That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said that it is their fault: Alvin Toffler, one of the most prominent students of the future, did not even mention
microcomputers in Future Shock, published in 1970.
that引导主语从句后跟主谓语can be said;can be said之后的that从句作said的宾语从句,OG中的结构问题在哪里?

50.   That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said that it their fault: Aivin Toffler, one of the most prominent students of the future, did not even mention microcomputers in Future Shock, published in 1970.

(A)         That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said that it is their fault

that...be said that...

(B)         That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said to be at fault

被动语态不是首选; at fault修饰的不是that从句,而是at fault修饰的应该是educators;

(C)         It can hardly be said that it is the fault of educators who have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology

it...that it is ...it重复,并且指代对象不对,首先排除;

(D)        It can hardly be said that educators are at fault for not anticipating the impact of microcomputer technology

(E)         The fact that educators are at fault for not anticipating the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said

Suri

1. sb. is at fault
at fault
Responsible for a mistake, trouble, or failure; deserving blame. For example, At least three cars were involved in the accident, so it was hard to determine which driver was at fault , or He kept missing the target and wondered if the sight on his new rifle was at fault . In Britain this usage was formerly considered incorrect but is now acceptable; in America it has been widespread since the mid-1800s. Also see in the wrong.

2.
(B)         That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said to be at fault
OG:Can hardly be said to be at fault does not grammatically complete the subordinate clause.

(A) ... can hardly be said that it is their fault.
这个it必须明确指代,因为"it is their fault"后面没有东西。
(C)         It can hardly be said that it is the fault of educators who have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology
It is the fault of educators who .....
从句定义了educators,但你仍然不知道it指的是什么,什么东西是"the fault of educators".
Pattern #3:
         It + (TO BE verb) + NOUN + that/who + verb
attern #3 要求 the fault of educators 是后面那个从句(who .....)
It is the negligent educators who ....
It is the fault of educators that is caused by educators who ....
(D)        It can hardly be said that educators are at fault for not anticipating the impact of microcomputer technology

That educators have not anticipated thr impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said to be at fault

That educators have not anticipated thr impact of microcomputer technology
因为这里的主干:educators have not anticipated impact

The educators who have not anticipated thr impact of microcomputer technology

That educators have not anticipated thr impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said to be at fault

The educators who have not anticipated thr impact of microcomputer technology

(1That he finished writing the composition in such a short time surprisedus all. (2)Whether we will go for an outing tomorrow remains unknown. (3)Who will be our monitor hasn't been decided yet. (4) Whom we must study for is a question of great importance. (5)What caused the accident remains unknown. (6)Whatever you did is right. (7)Who the watch belongs to was lost is unknown. (8)What we need is time. (9)What we need are good doctors.

(1)It is certain that he will win the match. (2)It is true that he has made a very important discovery in chemistry. (3)It is very likely that they will hold a meeting. (4)It is strange that he should do that. (5)It is important that we all should attend the meeting. (6)It is strange that the man should have stuck to his silly ideas. (7)It is a pity that we won't be able to go to the south to spend our summer vacation. (8)It is still a mystery what caused the accident. (9)It is said that he has gone to shanghai.(=He is said to have gone to shanghai) (10)It is known to all that the gun powder was first invented by the Chinese. (11)It is suggested that the work should be done with great care. (12)It happened that the two cheats were there. (=The two cheats happened to be there) 小结: (1)为避免头重脚轻,常以形式主语it引导从句.

B) That educators have not anticipated the impact of microcomputer technology can hardly be said to be at fault.

这话,如果照suri dd的理解,前面那块儿是个主语从句,那么不能作为"be at fault"的逻辑主语(educators),把"at fault"改成"their fault",语法上就对了,然后剩下awkward的问题....
