引自11OG:
Run-on sentences: A run-on sentence is two independent clauses that run together without proper punctuation.
Examples:
correct:"Jose Canseco is still a feared batter, most pitchers don't want to face him."
Incorrect:"Jose Canseco is sitll a feared batter most pitchers don't want to face him."
correct:"Jose Canseco is still a feared batter, most pitchers don't want to face him."
this sentence still seems a run-on sentence to me,
is it "," or ";" can mm double check for me?
thanks~

10. However much
(A) However much
(B) Despite the agreement among
(C) Although
(D) Even though
(E) There is agreement among
A is the best choice. ...because E starts with an independent rather than a subordinate clause and separates its two independent clauses with a comma, it creates a run-on sentence with no logical connection established between the halves.
71. The original building and loan associations were organized as limited life funds, whose members made monthly payments on their share subscriptions, then taking turns drawing on the funds for home mortgages.
(A) subscriptions, then taking turns drawing
(B) subscriptions, and then taking turns drawing
(C) subscriptions and then took turns drawing
(D) subscriptions and then took turns, they drew(C)
(E) subscriptions and then drew, taking turns
The wording in D results in a run-on sentence and does not specify what the members took turns doing.
仔细看了看,还是逗号,对此我也觉得很迷惑。而且第一句对run-on的解释也说是两个独立的句子放在一起而没有标点符号的连接。
迷惑中。。。
11OG-18:
Computers are becoming faster, more powerful, and more reliable, and so too are modems, they are the devices to allow two or more computers to share information over regular telephone lines.
A. so too are modems, they are the devices to allow
B. so too are modems, the devices that allow
C. so too modems, the devices allowing
D. also modems, they are the devices that allow
E. also modems, which are the devices to allow
OG解释:
The structure of the first main clause and the comma following reliable lead the reader to expect a second main clause. The clause so too are modems correctly fulfills this expectation. However, the clause introduced by they are is another main clause, and its inclusion creates a run-on sentence. To allow is not an idiomatic way to modify devices; either that allow or allowing would be correct. The correct answer is B.
此题的解释刚好与前面解释run-on的例句矛盾,看来两个独立的句子是不可以用逗号连接的。

我正好看到这个问题,OG11-18的确和它前面自己的解释矛盾,怎么会有这么低级的错误?
