15. M: It is almost impossible to find a person between the ages of 85 an 90 who primarily uses the left hand.

Q: Seventy to ninety years ago, however, children were published for using their left hands to eat or to write and were forced to use their right hands.

Q's response serves to counter any use by M of the evidence about 85 to 90 year olds in supports of which one of the following hypotheses?

(A) Being born right-handed confers a survival advantage.

(B) Societal attitudes toward handedness differ at different times.

(C) Forcing a person to switch from a preferred hand is harmless.

(D) Handedness is a product of both genetic predisposition and social pressures.

(E) Physical habits learned in school often persist in old age.

答案是A

The answer is Q's hypotheses.

The answer is not Q's hypothesis, but M's

标题: mindfree, yes, i agreed with ur saying, but...
I also chose E) as right answer, that is just Q's hypothesis. A) is M's hypothesis, but how to judge the question? I mean it's not in right/normal order, how to say the question in the normal order ? Thx!

E) is not Q's hypothesis for school can not be infered.

M: It is almost impossible to find a person between the ages of 85 an 90 who primarily uses the left hand.

the hypothesis of M: people using the right hand live longer than people using the left
hand.  which is to say, people using right hand have more
survival advantage than people using left hand.
evidence:       all the people at the age of 80 or 90 are right hand.

Q: Seventy to ninety years ago, however, children were published for using their left hands to eat or to write and were forced to use their right hands.

oppose the evidence:  not all the people are born right hands. which means that there might be some people of 80 or 90 are born left hand ,but later are forced to  change to use right hand.

the M's hypothesis is not valid

Thx, i understand M's/Q's hypothesis, but...
i still chose E) at that time, 因为不理解问题的意思.

jq,

You misunderstood the question. What the question asked was the hypothesis of M's. I think the question can be re-written as:
Q counters M's evidence, which is used to support which of the following hypothesis.

So the answer is M's hypothesis supported by M's evidence.

If I can get the main part of the question like this:

Q's response serves to counter any use of the evidence in support of which one of the following hypotheses?

Q's response serves to counter any use by M of the evidence about 85 to 90 year olds in supports of which one of the following hypotheses?

(我认为正确语序应该是Q's response serves to counter which one of the following hypotheses which supports the evidence about 85 to 90 year olds used by M?)
