我是覺得the patterns (of) and cause of ocean currents 是一個平行結構用來修飾pictures.
至於前面提到為什麼of the patterns (of) and cause of ocean currents 沒有直接放在其修飾對象(clear picture)後面，根據修飾原則確實應該要放在被修飾對象的後面，但是在這裡of引導的介係詞片語只能修飾pictures,所以沒有歧意.
請大家指教.(本人修辭實力真的很差，第一次鼓起勇氣回帖．有錯誤請告知，謝謝）

of结构修饰picture 但是of结构太长 所以后置 让核心名词picture与谓语更近一些

偶系这么想滴：
首先，that从句里再来there be是GMAT最讨厌的东东，排除DE
然后，因为主句用的完成时，按照句子意思，从句也应该用完成时，排除C。而且C中的their patterns and the causes of them明显不对称，错
最后，B中有个致命的错误，就是那个have，跟前面的a reasonably clear picture不搭，排除。

B关键错在their的指代，是指代currents还是指代patterns，是说currents的原因还是它的patterns的原因不清楚。
