标题: GMAT-23-14请教求解思路

Plantings of cotton bioengineered to produce its own insecticide against bollworms, a major cause of crop failure, sustained little bollworm damage until this year. This year the plantings are being seriously damaged by bollworms. Bollworms, however, are not necessarily developing resistance to the cotton’s insecticide. Bollworms breed on corn, and last year more corn than usual was planted throughout cotton-growing regions. So it is likely that the cotton is simply being overwhelmed by corn-bred bollworms.

In evaluating the argument, which of the following would it be most useful to establish?

Whether corn could be bioengineered to produce the insecticide

Whether plantings of cotton that does not produce the insecticide are suffering unusually extensive damage from bollworms this year

Whether other crops that have been bioengineered to produce their own insecticide successfully resist the pests against which the insecticide was to protect them

Whether plantings of bioengineered cotton are frequently damaged by insect pests other than bollworms

Whether there are insecticides that can be used against bollworms that have developed resistance to the insecticide produced by the bioengineered cotton

试着解释一下：

棉花种植园生产棉花杀虫剂对抗棉花害虫；

可是今年，确受到大量虫害。害虫不一定对棉花杀虫剂有抵抗作用。害虫依靠玉米繁殖。去年在棉花种植区种了大量的玉米。

因此，棉花是被玉米害虫给侵害的。

C,是否其他庄稼（可以理解为COTTON）已经有针对他们自己的杀虫剂能够抵抗害虫(CORN) ，杀虫剂是用来保护这些庄稼（COTTON）不受这些害虫(CORN)的侵害的。

答是，则棉花杀虫剂能够抵抗这些玉米害虫，则棉花不会受侵害。

答否，则受侵害。

请NN们指正。

我觉得应该是D

D如果NO，排除了他因，加强结论。

D如果YES，则说明可能有其他原因造成结论的结果。削弱结论。

C应该是无关选项啊。我觉得other crops 不能理解为COTTON.

COTTON的 own insecticide是 against bollworms,其它 insect pests 是否伤害它和bollworms是有抵抗力了还是corn地里长出来的没有关系啊

大家对B有什么看法，我觉得C和D都不对，但B我又无法完整的解释。我觉得B如果回答：No. 那么说明不是cotton corn-bred bollworms导致的，那就支持了argument. 如果回答Yes.我不能很好的解释。请牛牛协助。

还是解释一下为什么D是我的选择吧。

原文结论：So it is likely that the cotton is simply being overwhelmed by corn-bred bollworms.中有个很重要的词，就是simply。也就是说，the cotton 只是being overwhelmed by corn-bred bollworms.

如果D你回答yes,则说明可能有其他的insect pests也 damaged the cotton 。则simply必然受到削弱。

而如果你回答no。则很清楚地排除了其他insect pests damaged the cotton ，至少是 frequently 的可能。则很可能the cotton is simply being overwhelmed by corn-bred bollworms。结论获得支持。

综上，D应该正确。

感觉8楼说的比较有道理，3楼给出的解释确实也很有逻辑的启发。

现在同意选。最初我把simply理解错了。并且导致自己有一步也无法解释

D中间有个词"FREQUENTLY", 那么回答YES 还是回答NO,其实并不是说会不会发生,而是说会不会经常发生.

COTTON的 own insecticide是 against bollworms,其它 insect pests 是否经常伤害它和bollworms是有抵抗力了还是corn地里长出来的bollworms没有关系啊

偶选B

往年是没抗虫性的棉花受到伤害,有抗虫性的比较小

假如,今年没抗虫性的还受到和往年一样的伤害,但是有抗虫性的受到比往年多很多的伤害,说明虫子有抗药性了,所有的棉花对它来说都一样了,所以有抗虫的棉花受到了和没抗虫的一样的伤害,也就是相对从前来说的非比寻常的伤害.也就否定了外来CORN虫的解释,因为CORN虫不可能只吃有抗虫剂的不吃没抗虫剂的.

假如, 今年没抗虫的受到非比寻常的伤害,那么说明不是虫子的抗药性的问题,而是有很多很多很多的虫出现,所以把无数的棉花都啃光了,那么就说明有和往年不同的虫的总量出现, 就支持了CORN地里长出来的大量移民虫的解释.

可以肯定C是正确的
B的缺点：如果正常棉花没有被吃，这个就是很荒谬的，啥也不能解释，倒是可以解释成转基因的棉花的insectcide倒是成了美味了，荒谬吧，但是C说的通，回答yes，则说明虫子太多了，产生的药虽然能杀虫子，但是每个虫子宁可被杀死也要吃；回答no，说明棉花的own药不管用了
