The successful candidate will work closely with an Assistant Professor at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and an Assistant Professor at The University of Melbourne. The successful candidate will be responsible for web scraping and data extraction tasks, primarily focused on financial data and SEC filings.
Responsibilities:
1. Web Scraping: Develop and implement web scraping scripts to extract data from various sources, including financial websites, SEC filings, and other relevant online repositories.
2. Data Extraction: Extract relevant financial data, such as company financials, executive information, ownership structures, and other pertinent details from SEC filings (e.g., 10-K, proxy statements).
3. Data Cleaning and Processing: Clean and preprocess the extracted data, ensuring its accuracy, consistency, and usability for further analysis.
Qualifications:
1. Strong programming skills in Python or other relevant languages (e.g., R).
3. Familiarity with web scraping libraries and techniques (e.g., BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, Selenium).
4. Basic knowledge of finance and accounting concepts.
5. Familiarity with SEC filings and their structure (e.g., 10-K, proxy statements) is highly desirable.
6. Attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Prior experience with web scraping and data extraction projects is preferred.
