官方解析是：
D. Correct. This version straightforwardly expresses the idea, with no predication errors or linguistic usage problems.E. This version can be interpreted as being equivalent to the version in answer choice D, but in this context, that have been is clearer and less vulnerable to misreading than having been. Corn kernels having been heated . . . could readily appear to be a noun phrase in which having is a gerund, so that answer choice
E. appears to say illogically that tortilla chips are simply the result of heating corn kernels in lime. Tortilla chips are made from corn kernels that have had their skins removed by heating them with lime, but they are not simply the direct result of that process.

有没有大佬解释一下
以及曼哈顿说thisthat一般不单独使用，是不是也可以作为AB的排除理由之一呢

and this/that后面通常要加名词，不然指代不明（印象中好像有反例，但不多而且一时间找不到了sry

个人浅见~
GMAT里面this这种属于指代不清，一般this+名词才可以。并且根据逻辑意思，后面那半句话应该指的是”heated in a solution of calcium hydroxide (lime)" 这个动作，所以用同位语a process修饰非常清晰。
AB属于this的错误，排除
C谓语变成了removes，主语是chips，逻辑有问题。
DE对比，E不同的地方在于having been heated，不符合习惯表达（一般不用having been done来修饰名词）

谢谢！上GMATCLUB搜了一下，有大神说“this” should refer back to ONLY the closest noun and not the entire previous clause，不知道对不对
