标题: 求助！
The ancient Romans piped hot water through the walls and under the floors so as to warm up the rooms.
A so as to warm up the rooms
B and so would be able to warm up the rooms
C to warm the rooms up
D so that they could warm up the rooms
E in order that they would warm up the rooms

我记得之前看到说so as to 连用就是 so that 的意思，为什么这里不能选A呢？

so as to：描述indirect intention；且动作内容要和句子的主语一致。

so that：描述目的

这里的D选项：没有任何的问题。
因为so as to 不是一个特别被喜爱的用法，so that才是，所以如果D完全正确的话，那么我就会选D。

至于这里面的so as to，可以解释为：
1、直接目的，pipe out hot water就是为了warm，所以不选。

2、其次，从逻辑主语上看，Romans真的是warm up的主语和动作发出者么，我觉得这里是不太对的，Romans是通过一个行动来达到warm的目的，说Romans是warm的动作发出者我个人觉得有点牵强。

但是我觉得D也有点奇怪，那个they指代的话优先指代主句的主语嘛，那么Roman warm up the room不是就有点奇怪了吗，应该是hot water warm up the room

哈哈哈
they肯定指代Romans，然后Romans可以做成某事，这个could放在这里，我觉得意思是合理的，表明有能力去实现某事，是他自己去做还是通过别的去做，都可以。
其次，so as to也是默认Romans 作主语，所以他俩在这一点不是排除项。
排除项应该是直接目的和间接目的。
以及，so as to是一个不被GMAT青睐的用法。
论坛有人总结过这两个用法，Ron大神有解释过，特别清楚，同学你可以找一找呀
