hi，我记得第一题主要错误不在时态。
C选项，both指的是前面出现的两个主语，他们date到某个时期，独立主格结构，both的指代非常清晰。
B选项：both of which have dated，which只能指代前面的communities.
两个问题，1、both就是名词，没有必要用 both of the two oldest communities ，这样其实是重复的。
2、从目的上，C选项，both 对应主句主语，dating是对are oldest的补充说明，表义很清晰。如果是B后面date对于前面的补充说明的关系就没这么强，变成，某某是最古老的，其中两个都date到，表义没有这么清晰。
3、至于用date ， 还是have dated， 我觉得都说的通，过去时表示动作结束了，现在完成时可以表示，过去的动作结束了，但是它的影响持续到现在，比如第二题。所以我觉得这里时态不是一个split。
