1. Modern navigation systems, which are found in most of today’s commercial aircraft, are made with low-power circuitry, which is more susceptible to interference than the vacuum-tube circuitry found in older planes. (During landing, navigation systems receive radio signals from the airport to guide the plane to the runway). Recently, one plane with low-power circuitry veered off course during landing, its dials dimming, when a passenger turned on a laptop computer. (Clearly, modern aircraft navigation systems are being put at risk by the electronic devices that passengers carry on board, such as cassette players and laptop computers.)
The two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?
(A) The first is a principle that the argument relies on and the second is a conclusion that can be drawn from the first.
(B) The first is a fact that argument relies on and the second is a conclusion that must be drawn from this argument.

I think the first should be principle which seems like premise that cannot be false otherwise the conclusion will be wrong.

principle fact evidence are very abstract in the sentence for me, anybody can talk something about them in the answer choices in detail?

fyhlly，谢谢你的短消息，让我又看了一下这个帖子，结果有了新想法。

我原来一直钟情答案B，后来重新理解了一下题目后发现D答案更合适。选D而不选E的区别在于原文中对support和necessary的描述。

在逻辑中，support说的是充分条件，necessary说的是必要条件。在本题中前面的BF究竟是充分还是必要条件呢？如果A－>B, 则我们说A是B的充分条件，B是A的必要条件。所以要讨论的就成了究竟是“导航系统依靠从机场接收电波信号的方式来引导降落”（后面简称为1）推论出“导航系统正因为乘客携带的包括卡带播放机和笔记本电脑等在内的电子设备而面临风险”（后面简称为2）还是相反。

很明显，应该是1－>2，（其中还包含了题目中的一个隐含假设即电子设备在使用时会发出电波），反之，有了2，不能一定得出1。因为2也可能是由于1以外的原因导致的，如电子设备的使用影响机场自动化系统对领航人员的分配精度，这同样也给导航系统带来了危险，但却不是因为导航系统依靠接受电波信号来降落这个原因造成的。

同时，我补充一下为什么我现在不选B了。原先我分析选B的帖子在http://forum.chasedream.com/dispbbs.asp?BoardID=24&id=12769&replyID=12769&star=5&skin=，大家可以看一下。其实还是因为那个must，它的反例是乘客携带的电子设备发出的电波如果能够被有效屏蔽或消除的情况下，导航系统是不会因为1带来危险的。所以只能用can表示可能性，不能用must表示确定性。

大家觉得呢？多讨论下，毕竟要出总结了呀

排除法
A错在于我们不能从第一个划线部分推出第贰个划线作为结论.(the second is a conclusion that can be drawn from the first)the key word laid on'drawn from the first'
B is not right for we can not firmly decide that the conclusion must be draw from the
argument.it is highly possible that other factor will ocur which will rot the basis to be sufficient to support the conclusion.
and as for c,it is read the first acknowledge a consideratoin that support the main positoin,and the point is we can not kown what is the main position.
I PREFER choice d
concerning choice e,we should distinguish the evidence from the principle.AS FAR AS
I KOWN,THE PRINCIPLE SHOULD REFER TO SOMETHING LIKE'IF.............THEN.......'SO THAT THE EVIDENCE THAT FOLLOW IT,COULD DEPEND.

我同意miejue,选D.因为"论据"可以是多种多样的,包括事实论据,原理或原则.既然"论据"的意义更广,那么evidence 应该比fact和 principle的正确性都高.另外B还错在不该用"必须",因为结论不是能够必然推出的,而只是可能推出的,论证中所有的证据都不能排除有他因可以解释结论"偏航"的可能性.

D is a evidence which could be subjective or objective.
Evidence is "A thing or things helpful in forming a conclusion or judgment"
but E is a principle which is a fact or which is objective
Principle is "A basic truth, law, or assumption"
Big difference.

i can't agree with answer "E"

the second is a conclusion, but this conclusion can not be drawn from the argument

i choose D, the first is an evidence supporting the second

1。老式得飞机也用同样得方式降落。不能完全支持结论。只能作为前提。

In my opinion, the first only provides a general principle stating the role of the navigation system, which might be interfered or not be interfered.

the first can not support the second --the conclusion of the argument-- which indicates that the navigation system made in low-power circuitry is interfered.

1.前提：新导航系统由低电压电路构成，低电压电路比真空管电路更容易受到干扰

2.前提：在着陆的时候，导航系统接收机场电波信号，不让飞机偏离跑道

3.事实：一架带低电压电路的飞机（低电压电路不等于新导航系统）在着陆的时候偏航，飞机仪表盘变得模糊，此时有人打开笔记本电脑。

4.结论：乘客携带电子设备（笔记本电脑等）将威胁新导航系统的安全

仅从条件3，我们只能得出：乘客的电子设备会干扰低电压电路的正常工作，并且会影响导航系统（是新导航系统还是旧导航系统我们无从得知）。

但是1+3告诉我们：乘客的电子设备会干扰新导航系统的正常工作（因为新导航系统就是由低电压电路构成的），这就是结论4。

乘客电子设备的对新导航系统的影响不应该只局限在着陆的时候，当飞机在空中的时候，乘客使用笔记本等电子设备同样会干扰导航系统的工作（本来要飞北京，结果飞到上海），2只是导航系统受影响的一个方面，故应当作为支持结论的证据之一。

此题应当选D

I picked C because:

1. The main position is that modern navigation systems are "more susceptible to interference than the vacuum-tube circuitry found in older planes."

2. The 1st bold statement gives an example that supports the main position.

3. The 2nd bold statement is the conclusion.

杯具啊这道题这么多年了就没有一个标准答案么...... 我看国外论坛上有人P出此题并且说OA是 C选项后面的讨论也是基本认同C选项的........ 我个人开始选的也是E的不过现在觉得C和D更好附带贴一条E文解释

本来选D,后来研究了一下版上对evidence 和 consideration的定义，觉得C可能更合理。
evidence 是对结论有利的支持，consideration只是结论成立需要考虑的一个因素。

boldface的这句话并没有支持结论，如果改为“navigation systems cannot receive radio signals from the airport if electronic devices are turned on”,应该就是evidence. 而现在的这句话只是说navigation systems需要从机场收信号来降落，并没有指出electronic devices与信号之间的关系，所以只能作为结论成立时候需要考虑的一个因素。

E 个人感觉不选D的原因：如果A是B的evidence，则A首先需要是一个既成事实（客观存在），B与A直接相关且由A证明，如果此处文中第一句表述的是多起由于乘客在飞机上使用electronic device 而导致的事故，则可以作为第二句的Evidence。个人意见欢迎指正
