The number of undergraduate degrees in engineering awarded by colleges and universities in the United States more than doubled from 1978 to 1985.

这是正确的形式，但是我觉得，from 1978 to 1985是一个过去的时间段，是不是应该用过去完成时态啊？... had more than doubled from 1978 to 1985

过去完成时表示过去的过去，from 1978 to 1985只是表示一个过去时间段，不需要完成式

过去完成和现在完成不一样吗？如果是from 1978 until now，那就应该用现在完成时态吗？
