提供信息平台（platform）让人们可以获取消息，与时俱进（keep pace with the times）。然而，过多的信息（be bombarded with information）轰炸使人们很难明辨是非（distinguish right from wrong），误导和欺骗（misleading and cheating）人们。
2. 娱乐性：
媒体可以娱乐大众（entertain people's life），丰富人们的生活（enrich people's life or add spice to people's life）。但是，信息爆炸的时代（the era of information explosion）让人们需要耗费更多时间去选择，浪费人们的时间（time-consuming）。
3. 教育性：
媒体的教育功能（instructive function/ role）可以传播知识和文化（spread knowledge or impart knowledge to people），提升人们（某方面）的意识（raising the awareness of ...），开拓视野（broaden one's horizon/widen one's view）。可是，很多吸引人们的内容会让一些人上瘾（be obsessed with），使身心健康受到损害。
4. 交流性：
现在很多媒体形式都很好的加强了公众的参与度（enhance the participation of the users），允许人们公开发表（post）自己的言论，进行互动交流（interactive communication）或结识朋友。然而，匿名性（anonymous）和缺乏面对面的沟通形式也会给大众带来安全隐患（safety concerns）。
Initially, social media can have an informative function. In addition to deliver up-to-date news and daily information, social media is also a great place to follow the latest trends.
Besides, people will have more opportunities to socialize with others while using social media every day. It is true that, with the help of social networking, we find it eaiser to reach a large audience to share our interests and build up friendship.

For one thing, spending too much time on social media is a waste of time. When people are scrolling through the newsfeed and communicating with others in networking, it is quite difficult for them to focus on their work or study.
For another, constant usage of social media leads to psychological and mental problems. People nowadays use it as a primary communication channel, cutting them off from nature and reality. Some of them have become depressed and lonely after using social networking excessively.
