28-20: In the 1820’s, anthracite coalfields opened in eastern Pennsylvania, and when canals and eventually railroads reached into the region, there were substantial supplies of coal that was exported to the nation’s growing mills, forges, factories, and railways.
A: when canals and eventually railroads reached into the region, there were substantial supplies of coal that was
B: once canals and eventually railroads reaching into the region, there were substantial supplies of coal having been
C: with canals and eventually railroads reaching into the region, there had been substantial supplies of coal
D: canals and eventually railroads reached into the region, with substantial supplies of coal being
E: as canals and eventually railroads reached into the region, substantial supplies of coal were

D项是明显错误!with substantial supplies of coal being用来修饰canals and eventually railroads 明显with后的不是canals and eventually railroads 所具有的性质!
只有A项虽然there be很罗嗦!

D中的coal being的being不是多余吗?C中的had been错,没有时态标志不能用过去完成。

支持A

但是A选项 句子+and+there be句型这样并列可以吗?

Paper of all kinds is 核心词是paper
All kinds of paper are 应该为is 中心词是paper 不可数
All kinds of paper are 应该为is 中心词是paper 不可数 ,这个是不是对的,我在google上搜了,没有这样的句子

several million tons of stone were qurried
substantial supplies of coal were

N1 prep. N2 V.,去掉原題累贅的there were又去掉可以刪除的adj. clause中的relative noun與 past be動詞。

Q20:
In the 1820’s, anthracite coalfields opened in eastern Pennsylvania, and as canals and eventually railroads reached into the region, substantial supplies of coal were exported to the nation’s growing mills, forges, factories, and railways.

(Longman)
supply / səˈplaɪ /
plural supplies
1
▶AMOUNT AVAILABLE◀
[countable]an amount of something that is available to be used
supply of
I've only got a week's supply of tablets left.
plentiful/abundant/adequate etc supply
There was a plentiful supply of cheap labour.
The nation's fuel supplies will not last forever.
To protect the food supply , the government ordered the slaughter of affected cattle.
ᅳsee also money supply
2
▶NECESSARY THINGS◀
supplies[plural]food, clothes, and things necessary for daily life or for a particular purpose, especially for a group of people over a period of time
Supplies were brought in by air.
vital/essential/emergency supplies
trucks loaded with emergency supplies
medical/school/cleaning etc supplies
foreign aid used to buy medical supplies
3
gas/electricity/water etc supply
a system that is used to supply gas etc
the public water supply
If you fail to pay your bill, you run the risk of having your electricity supply cut off (=stopped) .
4
▶ACT OF SUPPLYING◀
[uncountable] when you supply something
supply of/to
The military government is trying to stop the supply of guns to the rebels.
5
supply ship/convoy/route etc
a ship etc used for bringing or storing supplies
In the 1820’s, anthracite coalfields opened in eastern Pennsylvania, and when canals and eventually railroads reached into the region, there were substantial supplies of coal that was exported to the nation’s growing mills, forges, factories, and railways.
anthracite coalfields opened in eastern Pennsylvania, and there were substantial supplies of coal
Supply
In 1820, A opened, and (as ######## 时间状语不用管),B were exported.
There be 和前面没对称.

当时也是觉得supplies were exported里出口的应该是coal;还有有谁可以解释一下canals and eventually railroads reached into the region里副词eventually的位置怎么这么奇怪啊???
e.g. supplies of food are almost exhausted.
