Good luck。

Congratulations on landing a job at the leading vampire squid   Especially in China, this is a major achievement that any graduate program will recognize. With only 1 years worth of work experience, you're not tenured enough to apply for M7 schools right away. I would give it at least 2-3 more years before you apply to MBA, making sure to ace the GMAT or GRE (take both to see which one you favor) in the meantime. If you want to do a Masters in Finance or another masters program instead of an MBA, 1 year's worth of work experience is fine. However, recruiting prospects are generally better post-MBA than post masters, generally, and less specialized. For personal reasons, though, you may prefer a masters instead. For instance, maybe you want to get your graduate school out of the way now instead of waiting until 27 or 28 years old or maybe you want to do a 1 year program rather than a 2 year program or maybe you know you want to specialize in finance or accounting or quant analytics rather than the more MBA generalized curriculum. Both options are valid - you just have to decide whether you want to pursue the non-MBA masters route now or the MBA route in a few years. Either route is going to require excellent strategic positioning given your competitive demographic. Even with LBS and GS on your resume, admission at top tier programs will be competitive. You'll need to show who you are outside of the office and the classroom in your essays and you are going to need a water-tight post-masters employment arc that aligns with your prior success and demonstrated interests. Both types of masters are going to expect to see extracurricular leadership, so you should get involved with some local opportunities now if you haven't already. Even an investment bank like GS, which expects nearly infinite hours, will have applicants who have some ECs on the resume and these applicants will outrank those who do not. Even though you are working all the time, you need to make sure that you can prove that you have hobbies and passions outside of the office. It may help to talk to an admissions consultant about MBA vs. Masters and now vs. later and the strategic positioning considerations that may affect your candidacy.

Good luck,
Raj Patil
