同问，我也有一样的困扰，翻了过往大神的解释是说their range extending 是独立主格，可以作修饰。
那如果例句：

A: 主语应该是humming bird,而非humming bird's range
B：没有问题，their range extending...是不定式modifier，不存在run-on的问题
从RON某视频的解释来看，这类句型需要满足两个要求：
（1）同时发生(如果是说，我通过了GMAT考试，之后两小时突然反应过来激动不已，那么这句话就是错的）
（2）must describe the main action in some way （不定式modifier和主动作间要有关联）
C：句子成分不完整 没有谓语成分
D：这里注意found only...和surviving through...是平行的，问题不在这里。问题在于剔除这整个modifier后句子结构是不对的
E：这里是不平行的
例子：Hand signs that natives use and appear in local rituals. (INCORRECT)
注意前后主被动的主语是不一样的，这里的E也是这个问题
