我选D，a complicated system of whistles, squeaks, moans, trills, and clicks 是sounds的同位语，虽然后面的being看着好别扭啊。。。也有人选A 。 a judgement call

我原来也选D，但是D后面缺了by。

B. E has two problems, 1) but and nevertheless is redundant; 2) "a system" following "Sounds:" they don't match.

B的逻辑意思不对，they从逻辑上指代dolphins，但是dolohins can not produce a system. I prefer E than B, which is logically and grammatically right, although there is one wordy of but and nevertheless redundancy.

发现a,b.e都应该是分号，而不是冒号

虽然和题目不一样，但是大家也可以知道一下题目的方向。其实不用刻意追求哪个答案，万一那个真题被人记错了，岂不是耽误我等，呵呵。

刚刚在朗文上看到一个nevertheless的例句：

What you said was true but (it was) nevertheless unkind.

如果应用到这个句子，是不是Dolphins lack vocal cords, but (they are) nevertheless creating sounds: a complicated system of whistles, squeaks, moans, trills, and clicks produced by sphincter muscles inside the blowhole. 但问题在lack和are creating不一致...

Anyway，我想说的是nevertheless跟but在某些时候是不冲突的，作为adv修饰后面跟的adj，而不是做全句的转折。

另外，当nevertheless做转折的时候，好像一般是在句首跟逗号而单独存在的吧。所以，这个题我偏向于E。

我觉得nevertheless creating sounds有问题吧,这个什么意思,伴随结果,原因,动作吗? 都不对吧! 这里是转折的意思,这样用是不对的.

nevertheless: adv. = in spite of that
可以看做是插入语，可以完全拿去不改变主要意思。
所以这里的A, B, E都错。A, B中的分词不知道做什么成份，改变句子中心。
本来以为E对了，但是发现 E要改为： but nevertheless create sounds...
D一定错，缺了by，多了一个being.
只有C了，虽然逻辑上有问题，但是语法上完全正确：but they do create sounds, producing ... with ...
do 强调create, producing做方式状语修饰create，表示create的一种。with 可以用来表示方法，手段，e.g.hit him with a rock.
可以看出with a rock是用来修饰hit，表示一种手段, 但是a rock本身是不能hit。
这里C的意思是，dolphines produce a complicated system, 而且procude的方法是with sphincter muscles.
E的意思是muscles produce a complicated system of ...

umm...如果colon是用來引導一個explanation, 那個explanation要是一個句子而且不可以是從句...所以E錯
B在意思上有點奇怪, 可是別的choice更不成...

五、：冒号

似乎冒号的用法是对冒号前面名词的解释，所以CD中缺少BY，A中主谓不一致，B中冒号后的的内容不是修饰前面的名词，they指代模糊。
