(E) to suggest that the elephant is descended from an aquatic animal and that its trunk originally evolved

D选项和正确答案E选项有一个小区别: that

its trunk originally evolved

而我在CD上下载的RON的笔记有一个例子
eg.The company announced that it would cut 10% of its works and expected to report a loss at its 3rd quarter
parallel: ANNOUNCE 2 things:

would cut workforce
expected to report a loss both Verb from a past perspective

请问这里是因为RON的例子里两个平行的句子都是同一个主语，所以不用在 expected to 前加that，而OG题里第二个从句里的主语是its trunk不是elephant 对吗

好像问了一个很zhizhang的问题

如果有大神可以完整总结一下什么时候一定要补出that 就更好了

no, not really. both of the following structures (in which parentheses are used to enclose the actual parallelism) are legitimate:
suggest that (x and y)
suggest (that x and that y)
on the other hand, if the elements abbreviated as "x" and "y" are long or convoluted enough, you're going to start needing the second of these structures, as the first will become essentially unreadable when those elements get long enough.

当两个从句特别长时，要加that使结构更清晰，但如果句子比较简单，可加可不加

其实这个that纠结不清的话，不妨寻找其它的差一点，比如这里的DE 的时态就是一个， D 中的had 表示过去发生，但是现在未发生了，E 中的一般现在时表示general truth 而这件事应该是一个general truth
