想请教一下关于modifier的问题

744. Many of the earliest known images ofHindu deities in India date from the time of the Ku shan Empire, fashionedeither from the spotted sandstone of Mathura or Gandharan grey schist.

(A) Empire, fashioned either from thespotted sandstone of Mathura or

(B) Empire, fashioned from either thespotted sandstone of Mathura or from

(D) Empire and either fashioned from thespotted sandstone of Mathura or from

(E) Empire and were fashioned either fromthe spotted sandstone of Mathura or from

OG上对于A的解释是这样的
A Placement of the modifier fashioned ... suggests that the Empire (theclosest noun), not the images of the deities, was fashioned out of thesematerials; to parallel either from, the preposition from should alsofollow or.
也就是说过去分词短语“fashioned...“是就近修饰名词Empire,那我可以理解其为noun modifier吗？

但是我的理解是过去分词短语和现在分词短语可以作为noun modifier和adverbial modifier
当用逗号隔开时时adverbial modifier
当没有用逗号与主句隔开时是noun modifer

请问我的理解有什么问题吗？希望能得到各位大神的解答！谢谢！

个人认为，你把fashioned后面理解成为noun modifier是没有问题的，确实是一个noun modifier。
只不过你对分词做修饰语的理解有一些偏差，没有逗号的部分确实是作为noun modifier，但是并不是说有逗号的就是作为adv modifier，这道题就是最好的例子了。

过去分词放在句尾的，一般来说都是就近修饰名词。大概只有compared这个词语有特例，可以做状语，修饰整句话

想继续请教一下，这里的“fashioned...“是因为紧挨着一个名词（Empire），所以就是对于这个名词的noun modifier了吗？
请问这句话：I run home fast along this road, tired like a dog. 中的tired like a dog 从句意上看是修饰整个句子，但是它也临近一个名词（road），请问怎么理解呢？谢谢！

你举例的这个，确实是做状语，这个没有问题。我给你的回答也没有rule out这种情况，只是说了一般。
但是呢，你这个例子，应该不是GMAT SC中出现的句子？所以这个句子的正确性，是否得到GMAC的认可，是存疑的。
所以个人认为，不应该因为发现了一个GMAT范畴外的反例，就否定一个大家都用了很久的pattern。如果实在是存疑，应该尝试着把GMAT所有出现过的题看一遍，看看是不是符合这个规则。
我之前整个梳理下来，就是发现了compared是个例外，并且在题目中并没有把这个当成是一个split，所有的题目都是用的compared，但是都不是就近修饰名词
