我觉得D、E是首先应该排除，因为逻辑意思不对，而且容易引起歧义。

而(B) merging the nuclei of atoms instead of splitting them apart, like nuclear reactors中，merging 的逻辑主语应该是Nuclear fusion ，否则逻辑不通。而 nuclear reactors是通过Nuclear fusion 发生作用的，所以此处用like nuclear reactors，会造成逻辑意思错误（Nuclear fusion 和nuclear reactors并列）。
