1.        Nuclear fusion is the force that powers the Sun, the stars, and hydrogen bombs, merging the nuclei of atoms and not splitting them apart, as in nuclear reactors.

(A) merging the nuclei of atoms and not splitting them apart, as in nuclear reactors

(B) merging the nuclei of atoms instead of splitting them apart, like nuclear reactors

(C) merging the nuclei of atoms rather than splitting them apart, as nuclear reactors do

(D) and merges the nuclei of atoms but does not split them apart, as is done in unclear reactorsE

(E) and merges the nuclei of atoms, unlike atomic reactors that split them apart

先把题目补全

这题争议是挺多的,楼主看一下以前的讨论吧http://forum.chasedream.com/query.asp

版主提供的链接好像总连接不过去,不知道为什么。

不知道大家的争议在那里?

我觉得D、E是首先应该排除,因为逻辑意思不对,而且容易引起歧义。

C的最大问题在于do。很难有所指,或者歧义。

我宁愿在A、B之间选择。

(B) merging the nuclei of atoms instead of splitting them apart, like nuclear reactors中,merging 的逻辑主语应该是Nuclear fusion ,否则逻辑不通。而 nuclear reactors是通过Nuclear fusion 发生作用的,所以此处用like nuclear reactors,会造成逻辑意思错误(Nuclear fusion 和nuclear reactors并列)。

所以,只有A是正确的。as后省略了某些成分。

请指正!

it should be C.

为什么?能将c中 as后省略的成分补全,然后解释一下。比如,do指代什么等等。

谢谢!

i thnik "do" in C is meant "merge ......"

nuclear reactors merging the nuclei of atoms rather than splitting them apart.

我觉得逻辑上应该是

Nuclear fusion of nuclear reactors merging the nuclei of atoms rather than splitting them apart.

你认为呢?至少从物理学上应该是这样。

sorry, i may be wrong in the last post.

Nuclear fusion merging the nuclei of atoms , but not splitting them apart.

nuclear reactors splitting apart.

Nuclear fusion and nuclear reactors are different.

那么 as nuclear reactors do好像不合适吧。这就是我选A的原因。

A肯定不对,as后面根句子,A就跟了一个状语,并且in nuclear reactor没有相对应的in ~~~~.我在C,E之间犹豫,比较倾向于E,因为C这个do实在指代模糊,不知道指什么,逻辑上不对,感觉有歧义,可以指power.E很可能是unlike后置了!

我觉得其他的选项逻辑意思都不对。只有A,as后可以看作是如下的句子的省略,逻辑意思才正确。因为只有Nuclear fusion 才能 merge the nuclei of atoms 。

(A) ...as Nuclear fusion in nuclear reactors merge the nuclei of atoms ...

再讨论!

up
作者: ESeraph    时间: 2005-9-16 11:21
我想这可能应该从意义上着手。我前面提出了一个想法,就是nuclear fusion和nuclear reactors不同,NF是核聚变,就是merging...,NR是现在的核反应堆,是核裂变,只是split apart. 所以C:as NR do的do是有所指的.
作者: riverhouse    时间: 2005-9-22 01:09

The answer is C. sorry for not following up.

The answer was given in OG11

And not is an awkward way to establish a contrast; instead of, rather than, or unlike are more appropriate idioms to express a contrast. the comma folloing bombs is paired with the comma following apart, and this comma parir sets off the participial phrase introduced by merging. As introduces a clause; since a clause requires a subject and a verb, as cannot be followed by the prepositional phrase in nuclear reactors.

C) correct. rather than is a correct idiom for comparison in this sentence; as is followed by a clause with a subject, nuclear reactors, and a verb, do; the comparison is clear and complete.

E)illogical and awkward construction incorrectly makes merges the second verb of the restrictive clause and a separate action parallel to powers; comparison is awkwardly drawn; switch from nuclear to atomic is unexplained and unsupported.

C给人的感觉是merging来修饰nuclear fusion。但是后面那个As ……好像是表明nuclear fusion 和 nuclear reactor 是一样merge them,这个和事实不符。

NN们,解释一下,也给总结一下!

作者: howardwang    时间: 2005-10-20 12:33

帮你顶!

这题答案C中,merging the nuclei of atoms rather than splitting them apart是伴随状况吗?伴随的是主句还是从句(我认为是 that powers the Sun, the stars, and hydrogen bombs。可是,除了逻辑意思,有何规则确定其伴随从句,就近原则?);

as nuclear reactors do中的do指代什么(我认为是指代merging ,但是,为什么它省略的是前面的一个分词?而且,为什么不能指代更靠近它的一个分词呢?这由什么规则决定呢)?

og的解释好像看了与没看一样。所以,请NN们发表点看法。

期待中......

OG-11不是这道题吧,我记得XDF老师曾经讨论过这题,C绝对错,因为merging the nuclei of atoms rather than splitting them apart作为现在分词的状语要考虑逻辑主语问题,但这个句子现在夹在两个名词nuclear fusion 和 nuclear reactors之间根本不清楚它说得是谁的状态(nuclear reactors 也可以作merging...的逻辑主语,语法上应该是没问题的)结果就是指代不清

这种错误好像OG上也有"批斗"过,不过我忘了是哪题了

答案是不是C 非我能力所及

只想討論討論,選項C中的 as nuclear reactors do中的do指代什么?

do 只能指代前面所提到動詞,不能指代分詞動名詞 !

(也就是那些看起來像動詞的現在分詞;或是長的像分詞的動名詞)

例如OG80 D選項 ,as those did 並不是指代flourishing

所以說本題C選項只能指代動詞power ,本句當中只有它是動詞!

所以說,c選項的do並沒有指代不清的問題

所以我們可以說它其他地方有誤,

但絕對沒有指代不清的問題

E seems better

作者: XUANYA2005    时间: 2005-10-21 10:17

C是11thOG给的答案。

看来大家还是认为E比较好,要不NN们写信去问问ETS? 希望很快有好的结果!

作者: riverhouse    时间: 2005-12-10 22:37

and not cannot express contrast. OG11版说instead of, rather than, or unlike are more appropriate idioms to express a contrast. Emerge 不能和power动词平行,comparison is awkwardly drawn; switch from nuclear to atomic is unexplained and unsupported.

作者: jnlvo    时间: 2005-12-10 23:41

个人感想

1 C正确的话,就表明C中的do是指代slipt。也就是do首先指代前面最近的动词形式的原形。

例如:

Fusion, the process that fuels the sun, is the holy grail of nuclear energy. It smashes together atoms to release energy, rather than splitting them apart as modern fission reactors do.(引自网络文章)

2. E错按照OG的说法:(1)merge应该是现在分词作power的伴随,而不是另一个和power平行的动作。(2)unlike作状语放句未,不是ETS喜欢的形式,一般是放句首或是所要修饰的动词的前头。

作者: 足球幽灵    时间: 2006-8-3 20:35

怎么判断merge在句中一定要表示伴随呢?

作者: lisiyin    时间: 2006-8-3 20:48
答案是对的,如果按c那么说as reators do会造成误解,reators 到底是做的rather than 前面的那部分呢还是做的rather than后面的那部分呢? 用e的话就避免了这个问题,直接用从句修饰了reators,毫无疑问,答案是对的e
作者: foxspring    时间: 2007-1-26 06:07

C is correct. "Do"  corresponds to "splitting"

还是不确定哪个对。但是上面引的OG的题目是不是和这里的题目不是同一题,因为大全上该题没有'bomb'字样。
