Agree or disagree: should parents use money as incentive for kids to behave well in school?

I agree that parents should use money as an incentive. Nowadays, kids have more pocket money and they grow up with iPads and smartphones and overall they grow up in a richer environment. It may be difficult for kids to behave well in school because some are rebellious by nature, some move around a lot and can't really control themselves, but a cash incentive could be something they undesrstand and could prove to be useful. Of course, this doesn't mean that only cash is enough, a more comprehensive approach is needed, but money incentive can definitely be useful and should be used.

Your friend often feels nervous when speaking in front of a large group of people. What suggestions would you give him/

Answer: First, I would tell him that he has to try it. If he doesn't even try it, due to fear of losing face or any other reason, then it's very hard to cure the nervousness. Then I would recommend practicing often. Like they say, practice makes perfect. Practice can help him get better at speaking publicly and if you are good at something, then you don't need to be nervous. Practice can make him more familiar with speaking publicly and therefore more comfortable. Finally, I would suggest being well prepared. If you know your topic very well and know what you're talking about, then that can reduce nervousness too.

Do you agree or disagree University students should take part-time jobs

Answer: I disagree that University students should take part-time jobs.  To be clear, part-time jobs here refers to those basic jobs that pay minimum wage, not a fancy internship at a large company that could be useful for jobhunting later. I believe that students should focus on studying, because part-time jobs often pay very little, and speaking from experience, getting a good full-time job pays far more than the little that could be earned from part-time jobs in college, and getting good grades is important for getting a good full-time job. Also, after you start working, you have very little time to systematically learn new knowledge, so students should treasure their time in university even more and spending it on learning knowledge.

Some people prefer to work in an office, others prefer to work from home, Which do you prefer
Answer:  I prefer working in an office. The surrounding environment is very important to one's efficiency. When working in an office, everyone around you is working and you have to keep up with their pace. Falling asleep at the workplace is rude and may even lead to getting fired. Whereas at home, you might feel tired and fall asleep. The home environment is too comfortable and there are too many distractions. Also, in an office, it's easier to communicate with colleagues and face to face communication is more effective as you see others' body language, whereas you would miss out on this if you worked from home and could only call colleagues.

The university wants to provide students more entertainments and three choices are provided below, which do you prefer and why?
-A concert given by professional musicians;
-A lecture from a well-known professor;
-A play.
Personally I would say I prefer a concert given by professional musicians.
First of all, it’s uncommon to see professional musicians performing in university campus and I suppose it would be a great opportunity to appreciate some real music.
Next, simply sitting in the hall and listening to the music make me feel relaxed. I don’t have to be very focused. If I am listening to a lecture from a well-known professor, maybe I have to focus and think a lot. That’s not entertainment for me in an intense study atmosphere.
Last but not least, I firmly believe going to a concert together with my pal could enhance friendship as concert is always a memorable experience for me

"Which  one of the following activities would you like to choose to do in the  class?
-a scene play with your partner
-presentation to the class about a place that you're familiar with
-read a selection of a poem"
Answer: I would prefer to perform a scene play with my partner. Watching other people perform in plays and movies has always been a great delight to me. I like to be more proactive and hence like performing myself. Though I'm only an amateur, I enjoy acting and role play. This is because it's fun to imagine different characters acting under different scenarios and performing these characters to the fullest. During the performance, I feel like I am the character I role play.  By using language, body language, and even the surrounding scenery creatively and comprehensively, we can tell a story that engages the audience.  A successful performance entertains the audience and this gives me the greatest pleasure.

Which of the followings do you think is most important to a country's success?
- Business success
- Medical care
-Education system
That's a very good topic. If I have to pick one most important thing from these three, I will pick business success for sure. Basically I believe Business success leads to economy development and economy development means real benefit to the people.
First, Business success could generate more tax and provide fund for public use, such as medical system and education, so I firmly believe business success is the foundation for the success of a country. Second, business success creates jobs and higher income, higher income make people happy. Third, business success helps a country gain respect around the globe. So in conclusion, I think business success is the most important one for a country’s success

Suggestions  for a friend who would like to make new friends in a new city or a new  school.
我第一个能想到的是be outgoing, take an interest in others, participate in after school or after work activities.
Answer: If a friend of mine wanted to make friends in a new city or a new school, I would tell them to start by being outgoing. If you're stuck home or in a dorm all day watching TV shows, then you won't be meeting people in real life and your chances of making new friends is lower. Then, I would suggest participating in after school or after work activities, which exposes you to a variety of people, some of which you will get along with and become friends with. Finally I would suggest taking an interest in others. Pay close attention to other people so you can quickly immerse yourself in the city or school's culture and be more able to bond with others.

Three ways to do a history project
1. Shooting videos
2. Interviewing the elders
3. Writing thesis
I love history and I love talking and communicating with people, so my choice for this question is the second one, interviewing the elders.
A solid history project should demonstrate truth and fact. Elders are true witness of what happened in the past so I do believe they can provide more useful information and make things trustworthy. Second, by talking and interacting with each other, I can ask what I want to know and get more details which could make my project profound. At last, I want my project interesting. A history project can easily become boring but real people talking will definitely make project more vivid.

Describe  one argument that you had with others. What are the conflict and the  consequence?
Answer: At work, once we were faced with a very tight deadline. I was co-leading the project with another colleague. He wanted to rush and meet the deadline. But I wanted to solidly finish every detail so we wouldn't generate a bunch of skeletons in the closet which might blow up in our faces in the future.  He argued that meeting the deadline was the most pressing issue and we would be in trouble immediately if we didn't finish on time. Ithought it was very short sighted. In the end, we compromised by completing all the major issues solidly and delivering the project on time as a whole, while asking for some extra time to wrap up the minor details, so both the client and my colleague were happy with the result.

Describe something that you are doing now but did not expect to do ten years ago.
Ten years ago I was 18 and I was just admitted to department of economics of university. I was hoping that I can be an economist after my graduation. But today, I am working in the real estate development industry, focusing on acquisition and financing, far from an economist. I seek good deals and development site every day, underwrite deals which I think are profitable and go out and visit the actual site to evaluate the potential of future development. I meet and talk with many different people and I visit different places. People say you have to see many sites to become a true acquisition expert and I believe I am on the right track.

Three  kinds of activities will be offered on a special day organized by the  International Student office. Which one do you prefer?
1.International food fair;
2. International music festival;
3. International film festival.
Answer: I would prefer the international food fair. I can't cook but I love to eat. Tasting different cuisines is my way of getting to learn about another culture. Everyone knows what a fish is. Yet there are literally a million ways to cook that fish. Not so long ago, I drank the most delicious fish soup ever. I didn't think it was possible that something as common as fish soup could delight me.  And when it was brought to the table, it seemed like a plain bowl of soup. But it turned out to be have no fishy odor at all and was just wonderful. Then I can go on and on about Mexican fajitas, Japanese sushi, Thai Pad Thai, and Chinese Hot Pot. Experiences like these bring great enjoyment to me so I would definitely prefer to attend an international food fair.

Friends may disagree with each other, and still remain friendship. Do you agree with  or disagree with this idea, why?
Of course I agree with this idea. People become friends for many reasons, and I believe one reason is that they can talk and exchange different ideas and thoughts. I can't imagine two people have same idea on everything. It’s just not possible. Furthermore, one very important thing about friendship is understanding. Personally I believe understanding means seeking common while reserving differences and that’s what happens every day in the real world. Finally, I would say friendship is above agreement or disagreement, it's more personal and emotional, and I believe it has nothing to do with ideas on specific issue.

Working  in a smaller company or organization with only a few people or working in a  large company with many employees, which one do you prefer and why?
Answer: Having worked in both small and large companies, I would say that I prefer to work in a large company. There are three reasons for my preference. Large companies often have more mature management systems and for people in the early stage of their career, it's important to learn the right way to do something. Granted, smaller companies are more flexible, but that may also mean more chaotic. Secondly, because of the more mature environment, it's more predictable the skills and knowledge that you will gain, whereas learning in a small company is more haphazard and random. Thirdly, work experience in a large company is more valued by future employers than work experience in smaller companies. So overall, I prefer to work in a large company.

Do you agree or disagree the following statement: the increasing entertainment technology makes fewer people read books.
Based on what happens in China nowadays, I totally agree with this statement. Young people entertain themselves by playing video games, computer games, mobile games and even board games. It’s not just about entertainment, maybe more about social. Reading books can’t achieve same result as playing games. Also, games are becoming fancier and fancier, more and more advanced technologies are used in developing games, such as AR and VR. These new technologies make people feel playing games in the real world and attract more and more gamers. Finally, I would say the increasing entertainment technology help people relax better then reading books.

Preference:  Do you prefer to read paper books or electronic books.
Answer: I prefer to read electronic books. First of all, electronic books are easier to carry. I can carry all my books in my kindle and it weighs less than just one book. So this is extremely convenient. Secondly, it's easier to search in electronic books. If I remember a few key words, I can easily find the relevant paragraph, which is harder to do in a paper book. Then, electronic books can be instantly bought and downloaded and this saves time from waiting for the book to arrive. Finally, this saves trees and if we all read electronic books, we can save millions of trees and lots of ink too.

Some people believe that class discussions should be part of the grade.  Others believe that only written assignments and exams should be part of the grade. Which one do you agree and why?
Personally I believe that class discussions should definitely be part of the grade. First, the grade should reflect the students’ skills in a comprehensive way, class discussions happen randomly and may happen on every class, teacher could find out if the student is following the content of the class. Not only that, by integrating class discussions into grade, the teacher could facilitate the class discussions and get more students involved in the teaching content. Finally I believe we all know that written assignments and exams sometimes can be copied thus making the grade lack fidelity. So overall I would say class discussions should be part of the grade.」

Do  you prefer to rent a house that is very close to your school but will cost  more or a house that is far from your school but costs less?
I would personally choose to rent a house close to school. In the city I live in, it usually takes a lot of time to get to other places, so if I lived far from school, I would have to spend a lot of time on the commute. It's common to spend an hour or so on the road one-way, so assuming I can save two hours roundtrip if I lived near school. I tend to value my time highly and two hours can be spent exercising, reading, studying and so on. Even spending two hours leisure time taking a nap is better than spending it on the road.   2 hours a day is 730 hours a year or around 500 hours a school year and 4 years of university is 2000 hours. 2000 hours well spent can be greatly beneficial and I would definitely not waste it commuting. Of course, it would cost a bit more, but I would consider it money well spent.

If there were the last piece of land for green plants, would you like to have any more buildings on it?
If there were the last piece of land for green plant, I definitely don’t want any more buildings on it. There are so many buildings and houses on earth and vegetation zone is becoming smaller and smaller. Human beings cut down trees for paper, for house and for other things they need. People raise sheep and cattle on grasslands for meat and grasslands are becoming desert. So obviously human beings are destroying the natural green space and in turn we see the properties surrounded by plants and parks are selling for incredible price, for example, central park in New York. So in general we need more plants not buildings.

To  communicate with others, do you prefer to send text messages or making calls.
It would depend on the situation. For important issues, I would definitely make a phone call, because there are many things that can't be conveyed by text alone. The tone of the person you're talking to and the intonation he or she uses, are all very key elements of "communicating".  For example, if you ask someone a question and they hesitate, this could mean a lot. Whereas if you send a text, it could just be normal delay. But for unimportant issues, I would probably send a text message because the sender and receiver can both read and reply at their leisure.  If I were to call someone about every tiny thing, this would be highly inefficient.

I am definitely in support of creating campus periodical for students. I think this periodical should be published in both paper and electronic version so it can reach more students. There are many benefits for doing this. First, it can provide a platform for students to display what they like and what's trendy in campus. Second, a campus periodical operated by students and publish students’ article can bring more students involved in the campus life and make campus more vivid. Third, it can help students practice many types of abilities, such as interview, editing and so on. So in general I believe it’s a good idea to have campus periodical for students.

Talk about a study habit of yours that is different from others. Explain your answer in details.
A study habit of mine is that is different from others is I like to prepare to the point of exhaustion. If there's a certain type of problem, for example, math, I want to see almost every problem that's existed for it until I totally grasp it. This is very exhausting and time intensive and perhaps not very efficient. I don't consider myself to be as smart as those who see a problem and memorize it at once so I have to do it the old fashioned way and put in those 10,000 hours to achieve perfection. I would say that this is not for everyone but it's one of my peculiar habits. To each his own I would say.

Some people prefer to shop in big shopping malls, other prefer smaller shops. Which do you prefer? Explain in details.
Personally I prefer to shop in big shopping malls. First, big shopping mall has many brands in it and the mall will have similar products in same district. I can compare different products easily and get to know the feature of these products at one time without walking into multiple stores. Another important thing is saving time, you don’t need to spend time finding different stores to buy different type of things, you can find shoes, bags, accessories, literally everything in one shopping mall, so called one-stop shop. Finally, big shopping mall always have promotion which offer deep discount and you can even combine promotion across the brands.

Which of the following transportation methods do you think is the most enjoyable? Bicycle, automobile or train? Explain your answer in details.
I prefer taking the train. The train is the most effortless way of transportation, unlike the other two methods, it does not require any exertion of energy. When I ride a bike or drive a car I need to pay attention to the traffic, which happens to be very congested in my country and I have to be highly focused at all times. But I can kick back and relax when taking the train. The train also allows me to travel long distances. It takes about 6 hours to travel 1000 kilometers on the train, much faster than if I had drive a car. I could be on an train at 6 am and arrive at a distant tourist area by noon, and I can spend the whole journey taking a nap, instead of having to remain in an alert state of mind while driving. Plus, the sitting space on a train is spacious enough and you can read or rest comfortably. So overall, I find trains most enjoyable.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement that people will read less in the future. Give examples and details in your answer.
Giving the reality nowadays, I agree with the statement that people will read less in the future and I assume read means reading books. Obviously people are spending more time on their smart phones and pads, not paper books and newspapers. Not only because mobile devices are easier to carry, people can also social with each other via apps and web. Furthermore, short videos seems to be trendy in the young age group. You can find people watching short video everywhere and live shows are incredibly popular in China right now. Finally, today’s earth is generating more information than ever, everyone is trying to catch up with the world, reading is just too slow.

Answer: The Zhongshan suit is popular in my country. It looks like a normal western suit but with more pockets, ostensibly because Sun Yatsen, the suit's namesake, loved to read and wanted more pockets so he could carry books inside them. Other than that, it's a fairly modest type of clothing, pretty much just a slightly modified western suit. But it carries great historic significance as Sun Yat-sen is considered a great man in our country's history and is still remembered fondly. On certain occasions, our country's leaders wear this type of clothing as it is highly symbolic and it's still popular among the middle aged and elder people of my country.

Do you agree or disagree university students should take part-time jobs.
I definitely agree with that university students should take part-time jobs. Student taking part-time jobs has many benefits. First, part-time jobs could bring some income for students, obviously this is one major benefit. Second, although part-time job is not real full-time job, students could still get a chance to experience the real working environment and accumulate precious experience for future job hunting, as we all know potential employers love to see fresh grad having part-time or internship experience.  Also by doing part-time jobs students can make new friends and learn many things from them because what university teach is very limited and students needs some street smart.

Talk about an after school activity that you enjoy doing the most. Give specific reasons and details to support your response.
I enjoy playing chess the most. Despite the fact that AlphaGo is quickly making board games no longer that exciting for the imagination, I still find playing chess deeply entertaining. There are theoretically an infinite number of chess games that can be played. Every chess game is different and I must continuously adapt to a new situation and calculate the best play. There is great satisfaction when my calculations are correct and I win! Chess is also a wonderful game because I have to train myself to look many steps ahead, something that is useful for general life too. There is always someone better at the game than I am and this forces me to be humble and continuously improve.

Of course I prefer to spend spare time with my family members. Ever since I was a young kid, my father was busy all the time and I barely saw him every day, so I take family as one very important part of my life. We spend more than eight hours every working day in office with colleagues, but only limited time in home with family so I would rather stay with family. Family reminds you that you always have a backup which you can trust and rely on. Also as my parents are getting older, it’s my responsibility to accompany them and make them happy, I don’t want them to feel lonely.

I maintain the English Corner at our school. We attract people from all majors to our club and we periodically meet and practice oral English. Since the schoolmates who come have different levels of English ability, I group them according to their capability and they use English to converse with each other. Soon I found that it was very hard for each group to keep the conversation flow going, so I would set a topic and agenda beforehand and direct the flow of the conversation. Sometimes it's about a best selling book, other times it's about a movie or a recent school event. It's basically volunteer work for me because I'm helping others practice their oral English. I enjoy it because it's rewarding when I see schoolmates that could barely speak evolve into confident though not necessarily fluent talkers.

Well I would say I prefer to work in an office. Work is work and only when you stay in an office you feel like you are working. You can communicate with colleagues and exchange ideas with other people, you can find support if you need it. You don’t want to work alone, trust me. Teamwork is more important than ever. If you work from home, you will have trouble finding the right people and support you need and I am sure you will be distracted by things in home. Meanwhile I believe most office will have better equipment and devices for work use and the productivity will be higher.

Some managers tend to check worker’s task closely or frequently, while others tend to check them rarely or casually. Which is better for management?
Answer: I believe that checking on a worker casually leads to better results. Speaking from experience, the worst managers I've worked for were constantly asking me for updates and criticizing my every move.  The best managers I've worked for fully delegated the tasks to me and only occasionally checked up on me. The rest of the time I could focus on getting things done my way and sometimes I would come up with a better method. Of course, casual or rare checkups don't mean no supervision at all. The great managers would give frank and relevant feedback when they reviewed my work and point me in the right direction. I think this is better for management as workers are given more initiative to achieve on their own while also maintaining necessary supervision.

If a mayor is to selected from the following candidates ,who all have no political experience but are successful in their own field, which one do you think is the best candidate for mayor?
1.   A university professor
2.   A businessman
3.   A doctor
Answer: I think the businessman would be the best candidate. In order to succeed, businessmen build coalitions among stakeholders. This capability is crucial for mayors too, since they govern cities that have stakeholders from all backgrounds and with different types of needs. By taking all stakeholders into account, a broad portion of the residents are covered. Businessmen also have to compromise to reach deals and often have to create win-win situations for all sides involved. It is important for a mayor to be willing to compromise and make the deals that benefit everyone, instead of being stubborn on his pet ideas and projects. Taking these into consideration, I would believe the businessman to be the best candidate for mayor.

Do you prefer driving a car or taking public transportation?
Personally I would prefer taking public transportation. I lived in Manhattan for more than three years and now I am back in Shanghai. In these metropolitan areas you have well-planed subway lines, bus and trains. For example, subways lines in New York is 24/7 and no matter how late you can always jump on the subway train and get home. Another important thing is that you don’t have to worry too much about parking if you take public transportation. Sometimes you need to move car every two or three hours in Manhattan. Don’t forget environmental protection. If you take public transportation you are saving the world by cutting emissions.

Do you agree or disagree with the statement people's personality never changes.
I disagree with the statement that people's personality never changes. One of my friends used to be very introverted in university and people in the same class barely knew him. In fact, even classmates two dorms away weren't aware of his existence. But then he went to New York and studied and worked there and now he's very outgoing and extroverted. I think what he experienced in New York, the fact that he had to deal with a new environment and even work in foreign country, shaped his personality to become totally different. So I think personalities can definitely change based on major experiences and different environments.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better to live at place where the climate stays the same all year round.
I am so disagree with the statement that it is better to live at place where the climate stays the same year round. My hometown has four very obvious seasons and you can easily tell the beauty of different season. For example in spring you see flowers, in summer you see birds, in autumn you see yellow leaves and in winter you see snow. The changing natural environment brings fun and joy. Also if the climate stays the same you may not be able to enjoy fruits from different season, which is very important for me. Needless to say changing seasons offer so many activities which you could enjoy all year round.

Do you agree with disagree with the statement that it's easier to teach children in primary schools than students in universities.
I think it's easier to teach children in primary schools. Firstly, children have less prejudice and are more impressionable. They do not judge facts based on past experience, which may be totally wrong, but absorb new information with literally a fresh eye. It's easier to start something from scratch than to build on an existing, perhaps even flawed foundation. Secondly, children are overall more curious about the outside world. University students are very busy planning for the future etc so they might not be as curious as a child who is seeing everything for the first time. That's why I think it's easier to teach children in primary schools than students in universities.

Some people believe that we should not discuss the private activities of popular people, like movie stars and singers. Do you agree? Why?
Answer: I disagree that we should not discuss the private activities of popular people. Due to their fame, celebrities influence trends in society. So it's ideal for them to be good role models and having their private activities talked about serves as a check on their actions, maintaining society's ethical standards. Also, private activities of celebrities are often public because those celebrities make it public in order to gain fame and attention. So it's mostly their fault they are on the front pages and if they wanted to be talked about, I don't see why we shouldn't. So yea that's why I think we should be able to discuss private activities.
