Nineteenth-century doctors thought that alcohol, when ingested, passed through the stomach into the bloodstream and was broken down only by the liver; recent studies, however, have led them to conclude that the stomach breaks down up to 20 percent of ingested alcohol before it reaches the liver.
A. have led them to conclude
B. have led to their conclusion
C. have led doctors to conclude
D. lead to doctors concluding
E. lead to the doctors' conclusion

我感觉是lead to sth.

lead sb to do 使某人做...

recente studies have led doctors to conclude that .......
the crime map indicates that violent crime is increasing
所以回归本题来看  led doctors to conclude that .....

recent studies led to doctors's conclusion that bla bla bla
Just like the background in art history needed by an archaeologist in order to evaluate finds of ancient art, the nautical archaeologist needs specialized knowledge of the history and theory of ship design in order to understand shipwrecks.

A. Just like the background in art history needed by an archaeologist in order to evaluate finds of ancient art, the
B. Just as an archaeologist who needs a background in art history to evaluate finds of ancient art, a
C. Just as an archaeologist needs a background in art history to evaluate finds of ancient art, so a
D. Like the archaeologist who evaluates finds of ancient art and requires a background in art history, so the
E. As evaluating finds of ancient art requires an archaeologist who has a background in art history, so the

Archaeologist need background...
NA needs knowledge of ....

這裡用present perfect感觉更好,在意思上,the thoughts of nineteenth-century doctors因为recent studies发生了变化,应该要强调recent studies的这种作用,所以用present perfect is preferable
