标题: 工作三年申请18入学MBA求定位
大神们好！！小妹准备申请明年的MBA，背景如下跪求定位。

Undergraduate: Hong Kong CityU (QS排名前100），finance major, GPA3.5/4
工作经验：香港+内地总共三年半，现在内地某big 4 valuation&modelling部门assistant manager
GMAT: 770
托福：没有考，以前裸考雅思8.5。申请能waive英语成绩的或者重考应该也可以
Qualification: CPA, CFA, FRM

其实也没计划念完MBA要干嘛，真要面试了再认真编故事吧。总觉得没念过名校人生不完整所以想选一个力所能及的排名高的学校。。

对最后一段超有共鸣“其实也没计划念完MBA要干嘛，真要面试了再认真编故事吧。总觉得没念过名校人生不完整所以想选一个力所能及的排名高的学校。。”

因为这个想法所以申请的时候经常怀疑自己。真的好奇有多少人是真的对未来有很明确的规划在申请或者读MBA。

，标化成绩非常亮眼，尤其GMAT和雅思；工作背景也不错，Big 4。

如何能让自己脱颖而出，是楼主要花时间去思考的，be uniqueness，毕竟M7的申请人很多也都有着很牛的背景，不少也都来自Big 4。

好好琢磨下essay怎么写，有哪些素材，有哪些与众不同的经历（交换经历，海外项目经历，志愿经历等等），以及这些故事要怎么串起来讲。

同时，开始约约有分量的推荐人，沟通推荐信的内容；反复打磨自己的resume，如果到申请时，要能有个title上的晋升将会更有说服力。

这背景的话其实也没有什么不能申的学校，但MBA也就一次机会，其实是自己想明白了要什么才能选最合适的，有最大的效用。回答why MBA与其说是为了申请，更是为了自己。

Hey there,

So great to hear from you!
Overall your profile is quite strong. A 770 on the GMAT is wicked good! So congrats on that. That will boost your profile a great deal.

From what you have written here, I would say your biggest challenge will be to make your profile unique and exciting. You have the numbers (the GPA, the GMAT), and the industry, but so far what makes you unique. Keep in mind that in top schools, there are many many Big 4 applicants, so the competition is tough, and anything you can add to make your profile better and more exciting will help.

As for the TOEFL you will have to take it. Schools do not usually give TOEFL waivers unless your studies were done in an English speaking country. It’s not enough usually that the studies were in English. But since you have a 770 on the GMAT I wouldn’t worry

Finally regarding your goals: It’s okay for now that you don’t know what you want to do. But you will need to figure it out before you apply.

What do you do? How Finally, A bit more detail will help me help you: quickly have you advanced? Do you have any leadership? What are your great achievements? Do you have notable community service or extra curriculars?

谢谢亲！title晋升现在的公司今年应该是没办法啦。楼主天生社交能力有缺陷推荐信估计也就是自己team的partner加senior mgr.你觉得够用吗？

哈哈握爪。目标明确其实也挺好的，但我是觉得要说IB/PE现在努力找找也可以转啊。不管选择哪条路都有很多种发展可能，想读就申请呗不计划太多

im in the advisory function：valuation of companies n intangible assets, some PPA analysis, and a little bit model build and model reveiw. Just normal path like most big 4ers, no fast track promotion

Seems a lot of ppl mentioned extra curriculars, i was a committee member of some student clubs in uni and did some half day voluntary works, not really some serious community service and definitely not notable..cant stand out on that.

will you be able to suggest what schools i should aim for? coz each application looks like so much work and i dont want to target the wrong group. Thanks again!!

我来解释一下为什么说读MBA要“目标明确”。

客观的原因，MBA是很就业导向的项目，招生官在筛选的时候，还是会看package里的career goal，至少是短期的career goal，确保是make sense的，面试官也会问很多相关的问题。并不是说你申请里怎么写，以后就要做什么，所以你的“编故事”的方法是完全可行的，但是在准备申请package的时候，需要就自己写的方向做功课 - 显示出对自己写的就业方向的了解、学校的哪些资源可以帮助实现这个目标或者和哪些校友聊了什么，这些都是很能体现区分度的。

就像我前面说的，你的客观条件申请什么学校都不会有什么障碍，但同时也没法保证你进任何top的学校——正常申请的话，我觉得S16是可以保底的，但这不符合你力所能及排名高的目标，决定你到底你不能进top学校的关键，就包括了你能不能清楚地描述你的职业目标。

主观的原因，是因为你的目标决定了你能从商学院获得多少，毕竟是2年青春时光，不能就一个top MBA的名头就满足了阿。目标不仅仅是指职业的目标——当然职业目标也很重要。八九月入学，十月其实就开始招聘季了，你是走IB还是consulting还是corporate track? 是看美国还是国内？即使你从头到尾都不担心毕业后的就业，暑假为什么不体验一下不一样的工作呢？如果你想换买方，学校的fund要不要参与一下管理，各种pitch比赛要不要参加一下？如果是为了更好的体验，是更喜欢学校在大城市还是大农村？如果是想走学术路线，哪些课程哪些方向是关注的重点？

我写那么多只是想说，你有一手好牌，不要摊开来让学校来选你，去想未来想做什么，不是在限制自己的可能性，而是对MBA的两年更负责的做法。You deserve much more than a top name.

Good to hear back from you!

So very roughly, overall, I think you can target schools in the Top 20 range. With your GMAT, GPA, and industry there is no reason for you to go outside of top 20. I would suggest spreading out your application over the better finance schools in the Top 20. So maybe HBS, Sloan, Chicago, NYU, Johnson, Tepper, Columbia, Wharton. A list like that will give you some hard schools and some safer schools, and provide you the most options.

Obviously, if I know more about you and your profile, we can dig in deep and get more precise.
