原句记不清楚了，粗略造了个句子，也有其他语法问题，只是想说明一下问题啦~

Tim was taught by Peter and instructed by Jill, both of whom encouraged him a lot.

疑问点在于，both of whom可以这么分别修饰两个间隔开的短语么？

还有一个选项：Tim was taught by Peter and instructed by Jill; both of them encouraged him a lot.

疑问点在于，这里后面的them him是否存在指代歧义？

Both of whom 是固定用法，就像none of whom, some of whom 一样。
both of them是不正确的用法，正确用法应该是they both
