11: Cash flows to stock and bond mutual funds have gained strength in the last two months, but fund managers have not been eager to invest the new money, instead of preferring to raise the cash levels in their portfolios at the highest level in six months (?).

是不是选完成时比过去时好，这样和前一个分句的完成时保持平行；另外到底是raise to 对呢还是at higher lever对呢？举棋不定，请NN们帮忙啊！！

我觉得应该是raise to 好，所以派出A/D

另外EAGER TO +不定式在此很恰当，所以派出C/E

另外，从逻辑意思，此处只能由instead.

所以，理应为B

another vote for B. two perfect tenses make a parellerity. raise to is more accepted.

应该选B，理由有两个：

第一，INSTEAD OF 是而不是的意思。 INSTEAD 是反而的意思。如果选INSTEAD OF 逻辑意思不同，FUND MANAGERS 两中行为都没做。实质上按照题目意思，他们做了其中之一。

第二，BE EAGER TO 应该更合乎语法吧。请指正！

我认为选a.在longman中查了，instead如果单独用，一般形式为...,instead,...或者放在句尾，之后没有任何词。本题这两种情况都不是，应该是instead of doing的用法。没有instead doing.下面是longman的例句：

Can I have soup instead of salad?

Cardew did not join the navy. Instead, he decided to join the theater and become an actor.

Gillespie will play in midfield instead of Cochrane.

I can't manage Thursday. Can we meet on Friday instead?

I can't understand why they chose him instead of you -- you're much better qualified for the job.

Jo couldn't go to the meeting, so I said I'd go instead.

We didn't have enough money for a movie, so we went to the park instead.

We didn't have enough money to go to a movie, so we went to the park instead.

You should talk to your teacher instead of just complaining to me about it.

选B吧。

instead是副词，一般有两种用法：instead of这个大家都清楚；

另外一个就是instead单独出现的时候，意思是：used to say waht is done, when you have just said that a particular thing is not done.

从句意看，本题正好就是instead的这种用法。

主要区别这2个词的含义，从句子的逻辑含义判断就很容易选B：

instead of doing sth，这个sth是：不去做的事情；

instead紧挨的sth，这件事是：反而去做的事情；

最后in 6 months 使用完成时
剩AB 倾向于B 因为好象记得instead of 后面不可加动词？

而且to the XX level 也更好些吧不确定等解答！

instead是副词，可以放在很多地方，所以本题选项中instead的用法并没有错。
但是，B有一个很大的问题：
prefer to ... 和前面的谓语have not been eager to 应该是平行转折的关系，而不是伴随关系，所以用preferring做伴随状语是有问题的。注意，这是GMAT最大的忌讳。

C选项用instead of，则把preferring和前面的investing平行，避免了做伴随状语的错误。但是C选项最大的问题可能是be eager at doing。
