Agricultural societies cannot exist without staple crops. Several food plants, such as kola and okra,are known to have been domesticated in westernAfrica, but they are all supplemental, not staple, foods. All the recordedstaple crops grown in westernAfrica were introduced from elsewhere, beginning, at some unknowndate, with rice and yams. Therefore,discovering when rice and yarns were introduced into westernAfrica would establish the earliest date at which agricultural societies could have arisen there.

这个题A选项的说法很绕。

我认为题干的逻辑缺陷是，如果有没被记录的staple crops有被introduce,那么就不能用yams&rice来推测agricultrual的最早时间。所以assumption应该填补这个逻辑漏洞。

A的意思：（我觉得应该是）当rice and yams引进的时候，western Africa的人并没有生产出staple crops（也就说明了yams and rice是最早的staple crops，可以用来推测农耕社会的时间），但是，A选项的 that they stopped cultivating 就很奇怪，这是一个定语从句吧，但是，翻译起来就特别奇怪了：当y,r引进的时候，人们没有生产出他们停止种植的staple crops。

求解答。我觉得A翻译起来特别奇怪。

翻译是：人们在南非没有发展出一种在有了大米和土豆后就停止种植的农作物。

翻译出来的句子并不能看懂。。。感觉突然质疑自己的语文了。

人们在南非没有发展出一种(在有了大米和土豆后就停止种植的)农作物。
括号里是形容词。

就是说，比如以前大家都吃小米，在这个国家导入了大米和土豆以后，大家就觉得小米不好吃，就不再种植了。
这就是，(在有了大米和土豆后就停止种植的)农作物，相当于上面例子中的小米。

是这样的，我能翻译A选项，但是翻译出来的A，和我理解的本题该有的逻辑漏洞，我觉得对不上号。lisiberry，你看看我一楼写的困惑呢，其实我的困惑不是能不能翻译出来A，是我觉得翻译出来的A和逻辑没关系呢。
