首先是看到了OG里这样一道题目：
Ranked as one of the most important ofEurope's young playwrights, Franz Xaver Kroetz has written 40 plays; his works—translatedinto more than 30 languages—are produced more often than any contemporaryGerman dramatist.
(A) than any
(B) than any other
(C) than are any
(D) than those of any other
(E) as are those of any
the correct answer is D，看看之前的帖子，NN们说这个选项其实省略了（are produced），也就是说完整的句子应该是 his works are produced more often than those of any other contemporary Germany dramatist are produced，对比的是Franz和其他作家的作品生产量
[size=18.6667px]那么OG的另一道题里：
Dirt roads mayevoke the bucolic simplicity of another century, but financially strainedtownships point out that dirt roads cost twice as much as maintaining paved roads.
A dirt roads costtwice as much as maintaining paved roads
B dirt roads costtwice as much to maintain as paved roads do
C maintaining dirtroads costs twice as much as paved roads do

[size=18.6667px]the correct answer is B
[size=18.6667px]我的疑问是：这里为什么不可以省略动词do?如果说这里省略do造成对比对象变成了dirt roads cost to maintain和paved roads，那上面那道题的动词省略不也造成对比对象有问题了吗？为啥这两道题一个可以省一个不能省？求NN指教啊！！谢谢大家了TAT

楼主，刚好也在看比较的省略。
首先，完全get到你的点。
然后，我是这么想的。
第一题，省略are produced，你也清楚，因为than的前后非常平行，同样用所有格，指代非常明显，those of ···和前面的his works比较，谓语相同，省略。（没人会拿复数的those，不去和than前面的works比较，而去和再前面一点的young playwrights比较的）
第二题，其实你可能脑补多了一点，你从哪里看出了，不能省do？B选项如果去掉最后的do，我也觉的正确。
只有AE选项是没有do的，你是不是觉得不能选AE，是因为他们省略了do？
应该不是，A错在前后比较的主体错了，前面是名词dirt roads后面是动作maintaining paved roads
E也一样，前后比较的对象不知所谓，一个是不定时动作to maintain dirtroads，后面是for for paved roads.
