答案是E, 对D的解释是“which, referring to extinctions, should be followed by a plural verb ”,为什么这里的which不是指“event”或者前面的句子“an event that caused plant and animal extinctions”？

首先，能指代句子就三个玩意，代词不能指代句子；其次which是不是跳跃的太远了啊？跨过了一个从句？？？我类个去

which 没有问题，问题是 marks。which在这里修饰的是 extinctions (pl)，但动词跟的是marks

句意很重要， asteroid slammed into North America. This event caused extinctions. The extinctions mark the end of C Period. （物种灭绝是C纪结束的坐标）

which不可以指代一个句子！不可以指代一个句子！只能就近指代最近的名词！但是在A of B 结构中可以跳跃指代

(B) which caused the plant and animal extictions and marks（句子的原意是an asteroid bigger than Mount Everest slammed into North America引起了动植物的灭绝但which不能指代整个一个句子，其次which就近指代了北美，逻辑意思不通，最后从句变成了并列，改变了句子的重心）
(C) and causing plant and animal extictions that marks（缺少谓语）
(D) an event that caused plant and animal extinctions, which marks（which不可以指代整个一句话，就近修饰extinctions主谓也不一致）
(E) an event that caused the plant and animal extinctions that mark
