Choice C corrects this error but produces an unidiomatic construction by using apprenticeship of being instead of apprenticeship as.

请楼主注意逻辑主语：CMiiller's career began with the unpromising apprenticeship of being,being 的逻辑主语为Miiller's career，难道Miiller's career可以成为一个学者吗？只有人才能成为学者吧！as 表示作为，修饰apprecticeship(学徒)。with后的逻辑主语为appreticeship.这是我个人体会，请指教
