[size=12.0012px]不知道能不能正常显示，因为是直接复制过来的，我选的是B，明显只有population才能decline嘛，结果正确选项是A。为什么啊？？？？一个species能直接decline吗？？？？

B中间是分号，前半句根本就不是个句子，没有谓语动词

"A)正确。
B)being引导的句子既没有谓语动词也没有修饰对象且该分句中and前后不平行（being和found不平行）；
C)having been完成时时态错误，成为焦点这件事发生在发现以后而不是之前；having引导的分句应该修饰“发现的东西”，但分号后句子主语是frequency，造成与前句逻辑关系断裂。
D)frequency错误同C；being和having been之间时态不平行，并且这种并列方式十分啰嗦（Manhattan原话）。
E)having和being错误同D。"
关于楼主说的词汇用法问题的确是个问题，但是相较于其他问题来讲并不是那么重要。另外从做题结果来看，出现being的选项很大几率是错误的，所以选之前还是要多对比一下看看有没有别的硬伤。

species表示种类为什么觉得“种类”不能decline？而且就算B选项不是分号是逗号，population也不可能being foucus 句意也不对

A选项后半句this species of parasite has declined for two decades, and may finally be eradicated from the earth by 2010. 感觉and前面不应该加逗号吧加逗号则表示后面是一个独立句子，缺乏主语啊

只是一点小见解，希望对您有帮助
1. 分号的作用：分号前后的两句话必须是完整的两句话，要有svo，且主语间有联系。
2. 句意：整句话的想表达的的核心句意是the parasitic Guinea worm became the focus in 1986。分号后面对于主句是一个补充。
那么，根据句意，就知道补充的内容也是根据 p G worm来的，那么分号后的主语也是关于p G w有关的。所以就句意和逻辑来说 A 是对的

再看后面的选项： B 先不说being的用法，分号前没有主语，也就是分号前的句子是残缺句，排除。C：it 指代什么？在你看完having这半句话的时候，你是不知道的，也就是指代模糊，所以错，排除。D the frequency 不能被found 就这一点不符合逻辑，排除。E 前面半句话出现since，那么所对应的时态必须是have/has +过去分词结构，但逗号后的句子时态却是declined，时态不对，排除。

所以A 是答案。

受教~
发上来的时候我已经弄明白B为什么是错的了，因为当时就是看到划线后是decline是直接秒选的B。
弄不清楚的只是为什么species能decline，但我也是太死扣细节了，其实A是相对来说语义最通顺，句子结构最完整的问题，因此还是要看的大局一点。

上网查了一下关键词，发现是有species decline这种用法的，下面是一篇国家地理的文章，给以后翻到这个问题的同学参考一下：
这句中decline难得做了动词，我也就这么一次是查到decline做动词用得。
Marine species declined 39 percent, with the biggest losses in the tropics and the oceans off Antarctica—especially among marine turtles, many shark species, and large migratory seabirds such as the wandering albatross.

其他的基本查到decline跟在species后是做名词用得，比如这个标题：
County Beekeepers Set Up Training Facility to Help Halt Species Decline; Pounds 37.6K GRANT FROM PRINCE'S FUND WILL INVOLVE THE PUBLIC

Comma+and 连接两个独立句啊

I eat rice, and I drink beer.
I eat rice and drink beer.
这两个句子都是correct啊

但是 I eat rice, and drink beer 就不对了啊因为comma and之后应该是一个独立句啊

BCD: modifier的主语错误，分别为population/frequency/population.
E:忘记从哪里看来的modifer原则
两个modifer叠加使用需注意，一般为m+sentence+m。不可m+m+s or s+m+m，介词modifer可忽略
thus， the answer is A

同意，我也觉得此处逗号多余，曼哈顿讨论区上有一个老师之前做过类似总结：
The GMAT tends to (I say tends to because no one is perfect) use commas in 3 ways:
1) separate a non-essential modifier from the main sentence
2) delineate items in a 3 or more part list
3) link two independent clauses.

如果主语＋谓语1+and＋谓语2，一个主语搭配两个谓语，并非两个句子，那么and前面是不加逗号的。

I like apples, and bananas. —>incorrect
I like apples and bananas. —>correct
I finished my homework, and went out to play. —>incorrect
I finished my homework and went out to play. —>correct

examples for two independent clauses

I was doing my home work, and she was playing outside. —>correct
I was doing my home work and she was playing outside. —>incorrect
