正确答案B选项。楼主有一点不明白的就是主句中could的用法，if条件句是一般现在时dose，主句不是应该用一般将来时吗?这里为什么是一般过去时could呢？

这里显然已经不是if引导的真实条件句了，因为假设的可能性太小，穿过刚果河流域必然要经过沙洲，泥滩或沼泽，全速行驶的可能性不大呢。
觉得这里是if引导的虚拟条件句，应该是if the new airboat did what it was supposed to do, 主句不变（用would/ should/ could/ might +动词原形），表示与现在事实相反的假设。
还真是第一次见这么用的。。。upupupupupupup求解~
