标题: 请NN教授插入语的知识点，不是独立主格也不是同位语 [打印本页]

标题: 请NN教授插入语的知识点，不是独立主格也不是同位语
GWD一道题：
With no natural predators and with expanses of green suburban neighborhoods where there is no hunting, the deer population in New Jersey, wildlife officials estimate, has grown to exceed 175,000.
加粗即为划线部分，当时我没有选这个选项因为我没有理解“wildlife officials estimate”。我觉得这是一个语法错误，因为这是一个complete sentence, 主语+谓语，他不是一个独立主格。
然后回答说这是一个插入语？什么鬼？？？？？？？？？请NN给我解释一个插入语这个东西，真的是无法理解。谢谢！！！

as long as the element is being separated  by a pair of comma, it could be viewed as an non-essential modifier ( it can be removed without altering the structure and meaning)

Though the use of comma is not tested, you need to figure the element to which the comma belongs.

in the sentence you mean, "the wildlife officials estimate” is a non-essential modifier, so when you remove the entire structure, it still makes sense.
the deer population in New Jersey has  grown to exceed 175,000.

谢谢NN回复，明白了，插入语的形式有很多，只要拿走之后不影响句子结构和意思，插入语本身没有语法问题，就可以接受，我这样理解对嘛？？？
