标题: 请问这个属于什么句型结构？
In 1995 Richard Stallman, a well-known critic of the patent system, testified in Patent Office hearings that, to test the system, a colleague of his had managed to win a patent for one of Kirchhoff’s laws, an observation about electric current first made in 1845 and now included in virtually every textbook of elementary physics.

请问这个an observation是用来解释前面的patent的对吧？以我初浅的语法知识感觉，这是属于同位语吗？我这个an observation有点突兀，如果不通过语意理解，很难知道它到底是只得什么，以及“an observation about electric current first made in 1845 and now included in virtually every textbook of elementary physics”这整个句子出现的作用到底是来干嘛的。

有哪位语法牛牛能给小弟解释解释？万分感谢！

an observation....是用来解释/形容one of Kirchhoff's laws的。

这句话的背景应该是RS在试图改变专利申请系统，他在听证会上举例说他的一个同事，在如今的申请系统下，甚至可以申请到对KIRCHHOFF LAW的专利权。对KIRCHHOFF不了解的人，肯定会问这个例子能说明如今的申请系统有什么问题呢？后面an observation对KIRCHHOFF LAW的描述，就是在解释说KIRCHHOFF LAW是啥，并且说明这个LAW已经存在很久（已经涵盖在所有物理教科书中），以此来表达他同事能申请下对它的专利权的可笑之处，进而说明当下专利申请系统的缺陷。

这属于啥句型结构啊，一个逗号隔开之后，后面跟一个句子。

不是一个逗号后面跟一个句子，而是“逗号+abstract noun+clause"

一个词可以作同位语，一个词+that引导来解释这个抽象名词的从句，整体还是可以作为同位语, 来概况前句要表述的概念

回来再把这道题给详细总结一下，供以后的同学参考。

将这句话提炼一下，就会发现前面的Stallman testified in Patent hearings，是个完整的主谓结构+地点状语；然后后面的that引导一个从句，修饰这个hearings。an observation出现在一个句子后面，肯定是做同位语了。但同位语有两种：一种就是普通的同位语，修饰前方名词，另一种是一个抽象名词，修饰前面整个句子（类似于独立主格结构）。Kim jong un met Donald Trump at Singapore yesterday, an event attracted so many eyes. 这里根据语义判断，属于第一种。

另外，做语法题一定要根据语义做判断，3楼的那位好朋友理解的很到位，向他学习。
