我想问的是：C中的“doublin”和“bringing”是并列的，按照语法不就变成了more than doubling和more than bringing了吗？这样句子意思就不对了呀？

这里doubling和bringing不是并列的，“more than doubling the country's size"和“bringing its western border within reach of the Pacific Ocean"才是并列的两个modifiers

哦哦，请问是这样理解吗？
因为并列的是两个modifiers,而不是两个动词，所以两个动词不需要一样的tense？

差不多是这个意思，我再展开多说一下。

你最开始的问题是，E制造了一个歧义，因为可以理解成MORE THAN DOUBLING AND MORE THAN BRINGING，我理解是因为你觉得原文是这么断句的more than （doubling the country's size） and （bringing western border within reach of the Pacific Ocean）。那如果按照我说的（more than doubling the country's size） and （bringing western border within reach of the Pacific Ocean）这么断句，是不是就不会造成你理解上的歧义了呢？

所以我说在这句话中，根本就不存在DOUBLE和BRING两个词比较时态的问题。所以这两个动词用什么时态，不用去考虑另外一个词用了什么时态，应该考虑在文中，在它所在的位置，应该用什么时态。如果一样就是巧合，如果不一样也没问题。

我是因为一看到and就想到parallelism，然后看两边的动词是不是同一个tense了。
