标题: SC 夹心修饰的疑问

不会啊，five centuries 作为插入语修饰的是1992吧，不会修饰后面的。

在做SC题目的时候，去关注一个结构的对错往往是下策。
楼主把注意力放到了five centuries after Europeans arrived in the New World是个【夹心修饰】，即有可能修饰Initiated on Columbus Day 1992或修饰Project SETI pledged a $100 million investment in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. 而为什么GMAC认为夹心修饰是错的呢？因为夹心修饰可能引起歧义。 但是在这个句子里，【five centuries after Europeans arrived in the New World】无论是修饰【Columbus Day 1992】，还是作为一个时间修饰【Project SETI pledged a $100 million】都不会让句子产生任何的歧义：根据句义，显然【five centuries after Europeans arrived in the New World】和【Columbus Day 1992】是同一个时间点。

谢谢回复！  我当时是觉得Initiated on Columbus Day 1992和Project SETI pledged a $100 million investment in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence有可能不是同一个时间点上的，不知道您是怎么判断的呢？ 还想请问如果前后不是同一个时间的上的是不是就可以判断为夹心修饰呢？

Ron在课堂上说过COMMA+_ing 表示了_ing和main action同时发生，本题里_ed显然和_ing是同一个类型的修饰语。

楼主这里可以根据句子的意思来理解，Ved 开头的opening modifier 要表示的以及就是 investment 是在这个时候initiated

然后five century....这个插入语向前修饰initiated 的这一天，向后可以修饰investment 开始的时间且initiated 的时间就是这five century after Europeans arrived in the new world. 并不存在所谓的夹心修饰能带来的歧义

就像楼上说的 记结构是下策，句子的最终的作用是要清晰的传达一个意思，楼主加油

there is no such a mistake in GMAT SC. I think this summary is somewhat misleading.

Following is a piece of my thought:
The structure of the correct sentence : "noun modifier1, noun modifier2, noun + verb....."

per meaning we can see that  "noun modifier1" modifies "noun"
                                              "noun modifier2" modifies "the elemet within the noun modifier1"

There is no ambiguity involved.

夹心修饰我理解是指Adverbial modifiers，而同位语这里指代的是前面的时间名词，没有夹心一说。
