标题: 关于from which的疑问（两道og17的SC似乎相悖），求大神指导啊啊啊
2017 OG的739题
In some types of pine tree, a thick layer of needles protects the buds from which new growth proceeds; consequently they are able to withstand forest fires relatively well.

A) a thick layer of needles protects the buds from which new growth proceeds; consequently they are able to withstand forest fires relatively well
B) a thick needle layer protects buds from where new growth proceeds, so that they can withstand forest fires relatively well

答案是A，但我选了B，看书后面的解析说from where有问题，应为 from/ where。原文这样说的: from where is not the correct form, because it is redundant in using two words that express the idea of location( from and where) instead of one.

然后等我做OG分册的216题时，又出现了from where，
216/

An analysis of tree bark all over the globe shows that chemical insecticides have often spread thousands of miles from where they were originally used.

A）.that chemical insecticides have often spread thousands of miles from where they were originally used

B）.that chemical insecticides have spread, often thousands of miles from their original use

答案是A…但是通过上一题我看到from where就直接排除了，后面想想如果找B的主干会变成 insecticides have spread from use，确实有点问题。

但还是想知道A的from where 改如何理解呢，这里和之前的from where有什么区别〒▽〒

请原谅一个SC小白的问题，但真的很纠结啊啊啊

739，bud是一个东西还是一个地点？
216， often thousands of miles from their original use，这个use和thousands之间的关系？什么叫做距离“最先的使用”有“数千里远”？

bud是萌发的幼芽，是个东西。。

often thousands of miles from their original use意思是这个杀虫剂覆盖范围很大，例如它一开始在A地用，但最后可以扩散到千米外

我的话大概会通过a thick layer of needles优于 a thick needle layer来选A吧。。。

首先说739题
A项的from which是一个定语从句，说白了就是一个形容词，proceed是不及物动词要加from,proceed from buds, from which=where, 所以如果是B from 和where重复使用了。
216题where they were originally used相当于一个名词性从句，说白了就是一个句子代表一个名词所在的位置，意思是他们一开始被使用的那个地方，from 一个地方，但是216题的B项from后面的核心名词是use所以句意就变成了from use, 很明显illogic

我觉得这道题也是要根据句意来的
from which new growth proceeds是修饰补buds的定语从句，which指代buds，一层厚的needles保护了孕育新的生长的嫩芽
但是如果用from where，where所引导的从句可以作为一个地点，那么这道题就要变成protect sth from sth 保护buds不受新的成长的伤害所以不能选where。
所以做题时主要判断从句和主句的关系

我觉得第一题重点是看后面“they withstand fire”然后回过头想they是谁
前面复数名词就是needles 和 buds 显然buds不能 withstand fire
所以就要选 a thick layer of needles 而不是 a thick needle layer(因为这时候needle就不是复数了只能是buds withstand fire 但是buds又不能所以不选B)

they 指代的就是buds。句意是：一层厚厚的针叶可以保护新生长的萌芽们;因此，萌芽们能够相对较好地抵御森林火灾。

739难道不是说layer保护bud所以应该是bud不受到火灾的侵害
怎么739是layer不受到火灾的侵害

请问第二道tree的那个题的B项，shows +that从句，但often 前面加了个逗号和spread隔开了，这里有问题吗？解析中只说from use 那里错，并没有提我这个疑惑点，求大神解析一下！~
