snorkel.

(D) to suggest that the elephant had descended from an aquatic animal and
its trunk originally evolved
(E) to suggest that the elephant is descended from an aquatic animal and
that its trunk originally evolved

这题答案选E，可是为什么不能用D中的时态呢，had descended。。。and。。。had evovlved 这样才平行吗？（不可以省略had么）

然后E选项，是被动吗? 题目中有现在完成时，这里怎样得知用一般时呢？

1，这句话表示的是一个客观事实，使用一般现在时正确。
2， be descended from 是固定搭配，所以使用is
