标题: 在曼哈顿语法里关于which和that的问题有一些困惑，求大神解答！

在第四章modifiers的课后题里有一个改正句子的题：
People that are well-informed know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine which bears its name.
然后它说which这地方是错的，应该改成that。说什么因为这句话如果以wine结束就不完整了，所以要用that.

然后我就不是很懂了，which和that在这里不都是essential modifier修饰wine的吗？为什么which就不行？

还有它到底怎么缺成分了...看不出来啊，主谓宾样样俱全啊.....

求讲解！

你看错了吧，that用在essential clause, which用在nonessential clause。

然后书说的如果把that后面的从句去掉，句子就不完整了...

which bears its name: INCORRECT. The context of this sentence calls for an essential clause to modify the wine, since the point of the clause is to identify the wine. If the sentence ended with the wine, it would be incomplete. The clause should therefore begin with that rather than which.
这是原文的解释，楼主解释没有问题。我也搞不懂为什么是这样。

一楼说的对。书里讲essential和nonessential modifier区别的时候用了两个例子，esential用的是that，nonessential用的是, which。也就是说书里并没有讲essential可以用which
